One of my BRF cakes got mashed up against the glass. Will my psyllium be able to pull it away from the glass or am I gonna have an issue when I try and get it out of the jar?

Here’s a picture of the opposing side of that same jar. This is inoculated maybe four days ago. LC batch 3 works fast. But it’s having a hard time with this really dense cake part.
The cake will shrink a little as the myc colonizes it. It’ll be fine.

What you need to know about trichoderma is that it’s often a secondary infection coming in and overtaking weak mycelium. You probably had bacterial spawn from the jump, and that infection made it too weak to fight off the ever present trichoderma spores that are literally everywhere all the time.
This is all assuming it IS trich.
What was your process up to this point? What grains, what inoculant, pics of the spawn before sending to bulk, that sort of thing
I agree with smelly the blue circles almost invariably lead to trich. I’m 100% confident that tub is garbaggio.
i'm sorry, this is a weird request, but i'm partially colorblind and would much appreciate you highlighting the worst areas of the pictures. i was able to tell something is wrong based on the discoloration of the mycelium, but i'm having a hard time discerning the blue circles you mean. it would also help me know where to look for this new growth tomorrow.
this may be a tall order, but clear images of trich contam are hard to find on the internet and by searching. more often than not they are confusing or way too late in the cycle to be useful to me. i wish to gain as much information from this dead first batch as possible, so could more experienced growers direct me to some good image examples of trich contam, and help me know what to look for in the future as well as now?
sorry, i'm a bit of a wreck. this was an entire month down the drain, and it's my first time. i want to rebuild a far stronger and more resiliant foundation for next time.
and here's hoping for an absolutely impossible stroke of luck to occur and a first flush remains achieveable after all!
thanks

It seems like mold is growing in the top, the part that looks greyish, but apart from that, the main issue I see is that your cake is very compacted. Such cakes will need more than twice the time to colonise. Ask me how I know...I would write off such dense cakes, even if they manage to fruit. Make a few more just in case. I've found that coarse verm, and a very fluffy/airy cake, allows for faster colonisation. Your grain jar does look yeasty, but you said you shaked it, how many days after shaking did you notice those specs?

The picture may not have caught the white. But there is no gray if you’re holding the jar. It’s just bright white on the top.
It is a dense cake and it is going to take a long ass time to colonize. I’m fine with that. I don’t really care if it sits on the shelf for a couple months.
I imagine it being such a dense cake. I’d probably be able to get a lot of flushes out of it. If it makes it.
The specs appeared almost immediately after the shake.
At first, I thought the specs were where the grains had separated from a big fluffy mat. But there’s just specs everywhere. Looks like like a bunch of yeast. What a bummer.
The weird part is it didn’t look like that at all until after the shake. So something must’ve gotten into the jar.
All of these lids were made, and being ran to test them. So I took the best ones that I made but it’s very possible that some of them just weren’t good enough. I’m finding that out firsthand.

I've never toyed with grains, so take it with a bunch of salt, but if the specs appeared right after you shaked, and everything seemed fine before, I think there is a chance that it isn't contamination, but just broken up myc. At least I hope this can be the case. Well, you lose nothing keeping that jar on a self for a few days anyway, and see how it goes. As for the brf cakes, I hope you are right, and they'll bear some fruits, even if it takes a long timez as I've made 9 jars like those you have, very compacted, and also not exactly mixed evenly. Note to self, mycology needs a calm mindset and not to be in a hurry...

So far so good 👍
Don't you wish you would have started the agar work sooner, now that you know?!?
I'd give it a hard shake personally, but 'each their own'.

Anyone got a link for their favorite pp5 agar containers? I want to try no-pour for convenience and be able to reuse containers. But I'd like some good, smooth, and clear containers.
Also, there are alot of LC teks. What is your favorite?(and fecipe you prefer). Making my lids now(syringe filter and SHIP). I just dropped my first spores on agar 4 days ago(first time with anything) and made my first transfer today but i want to get the ball rolling for fast inoculations with LC in the future.

It would be agar to LC i guess. Or doing the water on top of agar, scraping myc, pulling it up in a syringe and injecting into SHIP.
Those 2 are what make the most sense to me, but im a week old noob. So I take any and all advice to try lol

I just know spores are a lot longer to incubate and grow vs ready to go Mycelium....so prob should notice something at least within a week with mycelium and a little longer if spore..

I like to drop a clean wedge right into the sterile broth of choice, then swirl once a day. An easy go to broth recipe for me is 500 ml water with 7.5 g of brown rice syrup or malt. anything from .5%-2% carb content in your fluid will work.
I use the same jars I use for grain. The same lids too.

Okay so I was doing some research ting and I noticed this one person only uses 6 qt tubs rather than 12 qt, while i have always done a blend of the two. But is there a reason to go to a smaller tub other then possibly the colonization time?

Awesome man, thanks. You don't have a SHIP or syringe filter, I'm guessing you open in a SAB and draw it up with a sterile syringe?
I'll be using LME since I have it on hand. I want to make sure it's as clear as possible so it's easier for me to spot contams as a noob. I've seen people using 1g/L up to 15g/L of LME so it seems like it's hard to fuck it up lol. Is the broth in your pic malt extract or brown rice syrup?

God I love this thread.
I've got 1 more question for the night. First, I have searched but it's really a tike sensitive question. Where do you get your bulk sterile petri dishes? All the threads I've seen are old with broken links or vendors out of business.
I'm ordering some pp5 cups to do pour and no pour agar but if I don't like those I want to find a good and cheap bulk supplier. Like a 500 case.
Thanks in advance. And I hope everyones tubs are plentiful and you accidently isolate badass genetics.

That is sweet cloud brand rice syrup and water. It is super clear every time. Malt can have some sediment but as the mycelium grows it binds all that up and the fluid between the mycelium should not be cloudy at all. Even something like brown rice flour lc which I love quite a lot, will go clear like water between the mycelium once it binds up all the brf and solubles.
Here is another rice syrup jar with a plin freshly dropped in.
