Late harvest question
    #28682369 - 03/01/24 09:44 AM (10 months, 11 days ago)

Due to having company stay at my house, I was several days late in harvesting a first flush from some pf cakes.  They completely dropped their spores, so much that the caps and tops of the cakes are practically black.

Any issues dehydrating (should I clean off the spores first?) and eating?

Just curious, there are so many spores on these shrooms just thinking of taking a spore "print" by wiping some tinfoil onto them.  Would this be problematic?

No need to clean up the spores that have dropped, just dehydrate those shrooms. As for your second question, no, don't do it. If you want a print, do it right, so as to get it as clean as possible.

No issues with spore-covered mushrooms. They're just "uglier."

As Skropi said, if you're going to collect spores, it' best to do it right. Otherwise it will be very difficult to get a usable culture from those spores down the road.

Spore prints aren't hard to collect. You could also collect spore swabs, which may be a little bit more convenient for some people.
