dry verm?
    #2868057 - 07/08/04 10:21 AM (12 years, 5 months ago)

i innoculated my Pf jars 3 days ago. I noticed that the dry verm layer is no longer dry. I opened one up(bad?) and touched the verm (also bad?) and discovered that it was a little moist. Is this a problem and can it get fixed?

Opening your jars before full colonization exposes the nutrient rich anad sterilized mixture inside to all sorts of possible contaminations and compeating molds. Chances are you will notice this jar turn funny shades of green within the next few days.

A little moisture in the dry verm layer is completely normal. It's the fact that this layer has no flours mixed in it that allows it to work as a "contamination shield" under the lids.

Im in the same boat. I got like 12 brf/verm pf tek jars. Been a week and no sign of life in em. Constant 85f degrees. Im using a really fine grade verm and chunky brf. The brf has kind of swollen inside the jar and you can see lil grains of rice. Dunno if this is the norm or not. My fungifuel bags are turning white on the 3 day with the same spores. Patience is hard to come by =p
