Yellow water
    #26782537 - 06/25/20 04:38 PM (4 years, 6 months ago)

Hi, I am a first-time grower and have a few questions I would be grateful if the community here could please help me with?

I am just around 4 weeks in after inoculation of spores. I have a couple of grow pots I brought online that are growing very well but recently slowing down. I have noticed a lot of condensation on the inside of the pots forming which was not for the first 2 weeks. The Mycelium is fine but there is water droplets forming all up the sides. I know that water is needed to grow Mushrooms but I am still left wondering if this is totally normal?

I also have a grow bag that is around 4 weeks in as well (Pictures hopefully attached) that again was until recently doing really well. Now I am noticing lot of condensation/water droplets (Not sure if those would be the correct terms for it, so please excuse my inexperience) near the top of the bag and also at the bottom.

I now notice that the water at the bottom is a yellow colour and it has affected some of the substrate which has taken this yellow tint.

I am worried about infection but wanted to check with you guys first before i decide what to do next.

I wonder if this water is the colour yellow because of the contents of the substrate? and this has now stained the Mycelium? (Again excuse me if that's not a possibility), other than a slight colour change next to where the water has been the substrate looks perfectly fine and doing well.

If moisture and a tint of yellow water is normal, can anyone tell me if I should continue to wait another 2 weeks to move to the next stage of growth from what you can see in the pictures? To me, the substrate looks fairly well covered, but I would rather not rush things. The condensation and yellow tint water/mycelium has made me wonder if I should.

I'm really sorry if I sound stupid with my questions. I know you can only help me so much from my pictures and message. Nevertheless, any advice would be much appreciated.

The yellow liquid is caused by metabolites. Your spawn is bacterial and this is the mycelium handling it as best as possible. In a healthy bag/jar you would wait for 100% of grains to be covered in mycelium before moving to spawn, but this may not happen with your bags due to the bacteria.

Maybe leave it a few more days and see if the mycelium keeps spreading. Either way you should be able to spawn the bags and get some fruits, but the results may not be great.

I'd also do some reading on this website if you plan on continuing in the hobby, there's so much information on here about how to get stuff done right.

All the best dude.

Yeah that’s definitely bacterial. Sometimes you can still get mushrooms but that one looks real iffy. I’ve mixed bacterial spawn with untreated hpoo or coco coir in a shallow hole outside before and gotten huge flushes. If your part of the word is suitable.

Here’s a good place to start reading - check out the flow chart https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24144021

Spore syringes straight to grain bags is always risky so for the best chances you either want to go agar to grain to bulk, or use spore syringes for BRF jars you make yourself.

I'm sure they will be relieved 3 years later to hear that.
