Nice. Stainless steel too, supposedly.

So I had run out of disposable 3.25x14g needles I use for my LC, which is what I use almost exclusively to inoculate spawn. I was having a hard time finding replacements that weren't overly expensive. So I ordered 4"x14g Stainless Steel needles directly from Jorvet. Since these needles don't come with caps, I needed a way to Sterilize them and protect the sharp points of the needles. I decided that Autoclave Pouches were the way to go for Sterilization. After some trial and error with misleading sizes I have found these which work well for my needles and are also are a perfect size for #7 Scalpel Handles:
To protect the needle tips and ensure the pouches are not punctured, and sterility is not compromised, I decided silicone tubing trimmed to size would be the easiest way to achieve this. With 14 Gauge Needles, the outside diameter of the needle wall is around 15 Gauge. Converted to Metric, this is about 2 milimeters. So I ordered high temperature silicone tubing with an Inside Diameter of 2 Milimeters, trimmed to ~1/4", or just long enough to cover needle tips.

Just place the covered needles in individual pouches and PC for 30 min @15psi. Pouches have markings to indicate that steam sterilization has been achieved.
 Before Sterilization
 After Sterilization
Don't know how many people are doing it this way, but it's working for me, and it could help someone else. I've also thought about sterilizing in culture tubes, but finding them at 5+ inches has been very difficult.

Magnetic tape and polystyrene glass. Hopefully i can use them to make nice covers for the armholes in my SAB.

My current covers suck, btw.

It's very inconvinient to open the covers at the moment. SAB gets pushed around because the tape is sticky as hell.
Plus i waste tape and pollute the environment with it.
And because i am MacGyver.

It took a bit of doing to get this shoehorned in there! This "closet" is built janky, it's 40" wide at the door and 37" wide at the back wall, hood is 37.5 wide. But it's in now, need to finish the table part.

No I mean why do you have covers on it? Removing them will cause more air disturbance no matter the attachment type. Why not just leave it with the holes? Nothing should be getting stored in there, certainly not in any way that's exposed, so I guess I don't see the point?

Ah, ok, now i understand.
There are several cases i can think of, for example spore printing or leaving poured petri dishes unwrapped in the SAB until you use them.

Yeah Iโve seen people make covers with pvc pipe and the threaded caps. Personally Iโd still wrap my petris until using them.

I spore print in large Tupperware. I have clean prints and swabs but by all accounts Iโm pretty lax with them. I package swabs in open air and Iโve never had a swab I made in-house be dirty.

I have tried going this route. Couldn't find just the right size bands.

The only time I covered the holes of my SAB was when I had hot pours cooling overnight. I just threw a t-shirt over it and anchored it with something heavy enough to keep it in place.

So this still doesn't make sense to me. if you have a properly working SAB then you shouldn't have to cover the arm holes, just don't mess with it. Pulling covers off of the holes will create a minor vacuum which will draw a lot of air and microbes in. it doesn't matter if they are screw on, magnetic, or taped.

I am not a physicist, but "create a minor vacuum which will draw a lot of air and microbes in." sounds like an exaggeration to me.
The covers don't seal the SAB shut, there are little gaps all over the place.

When a seal is pulled away, it creates minor suction and it disturbs air. Put a lit candle in the box in front of the arm holes, put the covers on, then pull them off again. Guaranteed that little flame will dance. Same principle as why we don't use glove boxes and instead leave the arm holes open.
I'm not trying to stop you from doing your thing, I just don't agree with the general principle and think it would be minorly detrimental vs helpful.

It's still creating a disturbance and negating the entire point of them being there, speed doesn't matter.
