Wider than normal PP5 half pints for PF-TEK? [Pictures] 1

I have searched for half pints like crazy. These are the ones that I found until now..
They are approximately 1/2 pint (~300ml) in volume but are wider and of lower height than the usual PP5s I see around here.
One has a screwable lid, the other one has clamps to hold the lid.
Will these be ok for PF-Tek or are they too wide and short?

I think they'll work fine.

Wow that was fast. :-)
I guess the recipe wouldn't need to be adjusted...
Which one would you prefer? The screw lid or the clamps type?

You don't need to adjust the receipe.
The ratio is still 2:1:1. That means 2 parts verm 1 part BRF 1 part water.
I'd try both types and see which works for me.

Short and wide is what we aim for, so good job finding those! I have to try and find similar jars, as I have some glass ones, which I don't like, as I can't sterilise more than six at a time, and some plastic, which are great and I can sterilise 8 at once, but I don't like that they have a filtered lid. You didn't find those somewhere in Europe by any chance?

One more question:
Should I clamp the lids and screw them down tight in the PC or should I let the loose?
I have modified lids covered with:
Micropore Layer 1 Filter Paper Micropore Layer 2

That's great, I was worrying because I didn't see anyone using that shape...
I found them in Europe indeed :-) But it's from a local grocery shop in a rural area in eastern Europe. Would that help?

Screw them tight. The filters will take care of GE.
And don't forget to cover the lids with aluminium foil so they don't get wet.

Big lots used to carry a really cool PP five container with four latches on it that I used for quite a while I quit because the lids were allowing contamination in and It used about three times the agar versus a standard petri dish

Welcome to Shroomery!
Use unmodified ziploc twist 500ml containers as PF jars. Read Violet's PODS TEK.
I would use a screw lid. Has extra benefits: - can be used unmodified - twisted air paths reduce contamination, so no need for filter/holes. - aluminium foil is optional

It helps knowing that you are a neighbour 😁 I can't resist asking but what language are you most comfortable with? I can communicate with most eastern European countries, more or less...ofc. But yeah, I would feel safer using screw top jars.

The wider, the better!
Well, until its 2D, then thats too wide!
I have some glass Anchor jars that look similar to those u have there. I love em, they work great!

Thing is, they get wet anyway. Even if I put foil in them the steam will condensate under the foil when the PC cools down. I read somewhere that micropore is hydrophobic though...

Maybe wrapping the margins in cling wrap or parafilm would help to avoid contams being sucked in.

Would be great if I found them here. I just took what was present at the local shop... They were quite cheap and I thought I'd experiment a bit

Thank you
The ones without the latches have screw lids. Their quality is mediocre, some of them don't let you tighten them down fully... We'll see what happens

I see, you're not too far away 😄 That would be German, Romanian or English, makes no difference
Yeah, I thought so. I'll see what comes out of this and look for better ones if these don't work.
