I haven't read kashs method or if I did it was about 13y ago when I fell into a rabbit hole... However it's is just acid base chemistry. Does his tek mention defatting while it is acidic? Most people would use naphtha for that part because mescaline is not very soluble in naphtha....and trichocereus is extremely fatty.
Also reducing the volume with heat could make it more manageable. I think you said over 4l, which is a lot to work with. Maybe do it 1 liter at a time.so you can see where you need to correct your mistakes...I believe 3 extractions with 300, 200, and 150 ml of xylene per 1 liter. After you extract the alkaloids you could reuse it after you wash it
What pH does it need to get too, I think like 12 if I remember correctly.

A defat step can be done while the solution is acidic, so you don’t have to worry about mescaline getting pulled into the xylene. Mescaline in its salt form is not soluble in a non polar solvent.
OP, when your cactus tea is basic, the mescaline converts from a salt to mescaline freebase, which is soluble in xylene.
The xylene will then contain a mixture of plant oils, fats and the freebase alkaloids (mescaline, hordenine, the dimethoxy-PEA’s, etc).
Then you make an acidic aqueous solution (water plus your acid of choice - I think it’s not recommended to use hardware store HCl, it likely contains dangerous impurities, not sure) and mix that with the xylene. - the mescaline freebase takes on an ion from the acid to form a salt which is water soluble. - if you use citric acid, then you will end up with mescaline citrate in the water. Evaporation will leave a mix of pure cactus alkaloids.
I agree that you should combine your cactus tea and boil it down to a more manageable quantity

Yup, what he said. I have used hardware store HCl before for just this endeavor and ended up with beautiful white crystalz
