I need Alder Wood Chips...
    #2866223 - 07/07/04 06:18 PM (19 years, 9 months ago)

Does anyone know of any stores that sell Alder Wood Chips? (ie. Home Depot, Walmart, Target, Lowes) I have searched their sites, but no matches. Maybe they just dont have it on their site?? Or if someone knows of a good website. They will be used in the cultivation of P. Azurescens. So they need to be small chips. Thank you...

I know you can find shavings at sporting goods stores for smokers, but I don't know about chips. I hear that they sell them as a mulch at garden centers in the Seattle area, but haven't been able to find them in my neck of the woods. Let me know if you find a good source though, I'd really appreciate it.

Well, here are the two links that I found yesterday. (I only found 2, in about an hour of searching) here they are:

http://search.store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/nsearch?catalog=famousfoods-store&query=alder+wood+chips

and:

http://www.justsmokedsalmon.com/Alder.htm

All the other ones sucked. And whats the difference between 5 quarts and 8 lbs?

The first one looks the best. The chips look smaller.

I'm going to E-mail them and ask if the have no additives. I'm pretty sure they don't because the fumes would go into the meat that you are smoking. But who the hell smokes meat? And if anyone else finds any sites or knows of any stores that sells Alder Wood Chips, post here, or PM me. Thank you..

wood usually doesn't have any additives I think.
you might try a petstore, they have beach woodchips for animal bedding sometimes and that works just fine

yeah pet shops will have them, or try to get animal bedding used for lab rats and lab mice, these animal beddings are guaranteed hard wood, not all animal bedding is.

Do you think Pet Stores sell Alder Wood Chips though? That's the exact thing I (when I say I, I mean my friend's grandmother) need. Well, thanks for the help, any more links or ideas are highly appreciated. Thank you...

petshops' woodchips, shavings, sawdust etc is usually the cheap and plentiful type, i.e. pine

you're lucky - in the USA, you can buy alder chips, alder pellets, etc etc etc.
not so easy for us limeys.

that is exactly why you need to buy bedding for lab rats because evergreens and other trees have i dont know if its a sugar or something that hardwood doesnt have (same thing that makes hardwood suitable for growing) and this sugars must be avoidet on test animals because it can affect test results

here some pictures of whats in the bag.pieces range in size from 3" to 1".very suitable size for an indoor grow or outdoor patch.aldar wood is also an excellant chioce. It's easily degestiable for the mycelium cause it's not quite as dense as some hardwoods. In fact i believe it's the least dense of all wood that is considered a hardwood.
