Why is my Mycelium trying to escape? 1

Help!!
Hello people way smarter and wiser than me. This is my second grow attempt. I left this tup in the cupboard and just let it do its thing. When I checked it just now the mycelium seems to be wanting to escape the tub but the substrate is not fully colonised yet? I'm thinking scrape the sides put the fluff into some grain jars for a bit of a back up and next round of growing, and let the tub go into fruiting now?
Any advice is welcome, what did I do wrong?

you cannot inoculate a grain jar with that because its been exposed to open air and endospore-laden dust particles. think of it like a chain of custody. sterility must be maintained throughout the growing process, from agar to spawn.

Oh shit lmao I forgot about the other question in his post from speculation of the wall climbing mycelium lol but ya deftly can't "scrape it off into a jar"

Your tub is contaminated with amoebas a.k.a. slime mold. That is a very cool slime mold and I would love a copy if it will take to agar. Please if possible swab some on to a qtip and put the qtip into a small baggie or fold it up in foil.
You are not going to get mushrooms from that tub.
The chunky bits up by the top are where spores are likely being produced. If you do swab it for me please take from that leading edge and don't let it dry out. I want the bacteria too.

I'm not convinced that its contamination, but can't say its not. What is your substrate? Did you put grain spawn in garden soil? I would guess that it is not finding the growing media that it wants and is using what it has to search. You cant scrape it off into grain jars, but you could scrape it off into some pasteurized manure or coir and see what happens. Those are just less prone to contamination than grain or agar. Thats if it is mushroom mycelium of course.

Simply fascinating!
Looks so Sci-Fi. Ive never seen this type of infection before so this is really interesting to see.

It was grain in a mixture of coir, vermiculite and coffee.

I was shocked, I'd put the tub away in the closet and just left it to do its thing, turns out it's one funky thing itvwanted to do

Ditch the coffee. You don’t need it and it contaminates incredibly easy. If you’ve ever left grinds in the coffee maker for a few days, you know how fast it gets taken over.
The only use for it that I’ve seen help is a very diluted amount of brewed coffee in your grain simmer water. It’ll speed up colonization but too much and it’ll stall growth so I usually opt to just skip it

One thing I have learned on here over the years is when someone with a TC tag speaks, it’s best to listen. Especially an OG TC that’s been supporting this site for almost 20 years. The one thing I learned new this week is what slime mold actually looks like. Thank you OP for sharing the pic and Thank you Fahster for sharing.
