Just make sure there isn't a fungus already growing in the bag, which is fairly common

That was indoor? Im planning to spawn outdoors. Ill try doing the same with a jar of spawn outside in a bed of mulch. I got some extra jars anyway

Im going to spawn some jars to unsterile hardwood mulch outdoors. Do I need to hydrate the mulch? Should I boil it? Should I add coir/verm? If so should it be at field capacity? What should the ratios be?

Spawn colonized grain directly to your woodchip bed outdoors.  Water the chips, dump the jars and mix them in, leave it alone except for watering if it gets real dry out.

This has always worked for me.

Anytime ive ever dumped grains it never seemed to get eaten. I live in a very developed area. The wildlife is probably mostly wiped out sadly.

Have you had squirrels digging around in your outdoor WL chip beds in excess of where they dig elsewhere?

Indoors for the winter, made an outdoor patch with a few of these shoeboxes, some more jars of grain, and partially colonized bags of mulch left outside over winter.

Led to some clusters like this, probably got qp dry from the spring flush a year later in a 3' x 3' plot
