Second flush on the first shoebox is coming in. The surface mycelium is a very pretty shade of blue due to bruising, I understand how these became known as Blue Meanies.

Cased the other 3 yesterday and 2 have pins already. These things are fast. S2B 2/17

I’m now running all my pans in miniature ez dial tubs and all of a sudden the last 5-6 tubs have started fruiting before the surface is fully colonised, if at all, you think it’s higher fae? I have them at fruiting from the start and there’s been no change in environmental factors but even TTBVI which I’d previously been running in smaller tubs were at least a day or 2 away from being cased before they started pinning, best looking flushes I’ve seen from them to date also

This nec d tub turned out a little fuller than average but the fruits weren’t as meaty

You are saying you were already fruiting at sawn before you switched to the mini ez tubs? Are you running different genetics, MS or different clones? I am often thinking about the the TTBVI grows I am seeing on here and why they are taking over casing so much, one thing I thought worth trying was to let the spawn consolidate before spawning. Did you leave the jars sitting around for longer?

.....regardless, this is looking great...yay :awedance:

Also got the goodies last Friday.....

I’ve only been running the TTBVI in smaller unmodified tubs before the 2 above but the other grows I’ve done have all been mini ez dial that were in fruiting conditions at spawn, every grow is just transfers from the last (got some clones to trial though) so no real variation genetically but not necessarily consistent either until recently.
This is the first time TTBVI hasn’t completely dominated the sub and every pan grow I’ve done has fully colonised the surface before casing then waiting for pins, got me seriously stumped, I’ll let you know how the next grows goπŸ‘
And goodies for the win!

I wouldn't let poo hold you back.  You can sterilize it right in the jar with the grains, and they seem to run a lot faster this way anyway.  Bags of black kow are pretty cheap and work well if you have access to home depots and you don't have a poo source otherwise.

Off a few poo/verm/grain jars spawned to coir and properly cased, I've gotten a lot of friends full very quickly.  A couple of us are running them in the log in my sig, feel free to stop in if you want to give it a try or have any questions.  It's a WIP, but I'm starting to get it pretty dialed in for the bags of manure and verm I have in my garage anyway.  Might need some slight adjustments depending on what you're working with.

Thank you for your replies, yeah i have no problem getting horse or cow poo so theoreticaly i could add it to jars with grains ad then spawn with coir right?

I don't even have the spores yet so we will see if i'll get into this season or just next one.

Also yeah big lez show is amazing, i'm currently rewatching it

Posting this for reference: Three bisporus clone tubs, all fully colonized 5 days after spawn. Spawn ratio should be around 1:6 with 1/4 top layer. Don't think I am going to case any of these.

First one fruited @ spawn, vented lid, 1 layer of MPT on bottom holes, top holes closed. Might follow the reverends example and try the neglect tek on this one....still struggling to convince myself though

Second one fruited @ spawn, vented lid, 2 layers of MPT on bottom holes, top holes open which caused lighter colonization on the short ends.

Third one colonizing under restricted FAE, vented lid, all holes covered with masking tape. This is showing the densest surface colonization as expected.

do u consider them to be already colonizied? it is hard to see any mycelium.

This is bisporus which is very wispy compared to other pans. The surfaces are completely covered with mycelium which is the definition of fully colonized, everything beyond that I would call consolidation. Also keep in mind that the first two tubs were fruited at spawn which does reduce the surface growth quite a bit.

The other pans do colonize thicker/denser like cambodginiensis for example does look more like this.

and cyanescens I have experienced to colonize somewhere in between like this

Lastly an example of how fruiting at spawn does reduce the density of the surface growth. These are both the same cambodginiensis variety, first colonized under restricted FAE and second fruited @ spawn

but nothing is really written in stone in this regard as the amount of surface growth is influenced by a few factors IME like for example spawn ratio, substrate wetness, type of substrate, amount of FAE, culture vigor and more

Too dense mycelium will result in no pins. I have struggled with this. And in such cases I use fork to correct it.

Here below is my first attempt to grow Bisporus

I've been looking at a lot of casing research and standard practices in edible production, especially in agaricus species.

I'm going to try a few different experiments in the next few weeks. Some interesting things I found are using spent mushroom substrate in casings, using vermicompost, and using old casings.  Inoculating the casing with compost spawn is another option but one I might wait to play with until I have better genetics cloned (running 11 f1 MS jars now).

In all three of the above instances I'll be using a 2:1 ratio of standard casing to the above amendments.

My instinct is that Bisporus isn't colonizing the verm as well as the Cyans, and that I'll get healthier pinsits and fruit body formation by adjusting my casing recipe to allow better partial colonization.

Also, excited to see how Bisporus does in monos for you Baba!  I have a warm spot for this species right now and would love to see it be more accessible for more people

You will need to produce clean spawn and at least some fruits should pop up.

Having said this I would recommend to stay away from spores to inoculate grain. How is your agar work and pasteurization experience?

If you are just after some clones then one tub should suffice assuming that your spawn and substrate is well done. When I am on the hunt for clones I do either cakes (coir, manure, wholemeal flour) or spawn grain to smaller containers with coir/manure substrate, apply rather poor fruiting conditions and clone the fruits which pop up. This usually produced some forgiving cultures which did well in most situations.

Main thing is clean spawn and healthy substrate.

It will take a bit longer to colonize if you inoculate with wedges, this is more less what I am doing when hunting for clones, you can also make grain spawn and spawn to small containers like that. First photo is a cake, the others are spawned grain.

These 2 tubs went to fruiting at spawn and started pinning before I had a chance to case, reckon it’d be fine to case after I harvest the larger ones? I’d be casing over pins though so I’m not sure if they'd survive.
Smallest TTBVI I’ve gotten yet, might just case when I spawn to avoid this in the future.

Are all your TT grows look like this or is this look culture specific? Seems like they are borderline aborting.
