Has anyone experienced shorter mushrooms on flushes after the first flush, so like second and third flushes..mushrooms being much shorter than the first.  I have been unable to figure out why this is happening.

No insulation in my lab, so the temps were low the last several weeks. But, that problem is behind me. I'm 22+ หšC in here now...

So, I'll keep the plates and noc up some rye with agar when it's ready. In the meantime, I'll try (diluted) GWA and MEA plates, too.

thanks for all the advice!

Ug. I feel like pounding my head on my desk... Everyone keeps talking about BVI growing really fast, but mine doesn't seem to be doing much. Any advice?

I swabbed 2 plates using a (purchased) spore print on 2/6/24. Here's what the plates look like today:

You can see in the right plate where I pulled 2 plugs for t1s on 2/11, photo today:

Is this just all mold?

In my experience, the age of the print matters too.  I have found prints I've made 7 months ago to not be nearly as vigorous as prints made in the last 2 or so months.  Maybe there are other factors at play but I recently streaked spores from a print made on July 2023, and ones made within the last few weeks, same agar recipe (per 500ml distilled water, 7g LME, 0.5g yeast, 9.5g agar), here are results:

Plates A and B were made from caps printed in the last few weeks:
A: Plate stored in Incubator around 75F low RH (15-20%)

B: Plate stored in fruiting tent, temp around 77F (High RH 80+%)

Plates C and D were made from caps printed in July 2023
C: stored incubator around 75F (15-20%RH)

D: stored incubator around 75F (15-20% RH)

Interesting observation, Timestop. I have for sure seen vigorous germination from fresh prints versus older ones with other species, but hadn't noticed that the vigor continues on into the rest of the plate growth.

On a different note, got another tray of pan cyan Kona HI harvested first flush on day 16. They didn't give me a chance to case them.

QQ. Is anyone casing pans after a flush? My other Kona tray wasn't doing anything 4 days after harvest except collecting puddles so I lightly dusted it with some additional casing. But this one never had a casing to start with.

Love seeing uncased grows.

I often don't case at the beginning and never re-case after a flush, rarely go past 2nd flush tho.

I finally spawned TTBVI to bulk 6 days ago.  The substrate was horse poo and coir prepped using Baba's liquid manure pasteurisation tek and keeping it at just over 140C for a little over an hour.

This morning, most of the tubs are colonising well and nearly ready for casing.

But... I just pulled out 4 tiny seedlings.  Presumably there were seeds in the poo (it was very well aged).  Is that normal, or should I be worried?

Second flush on the first shoebox is coming in. The surface mycelium is a very pretty shade of blue due to bruising, I understand how these became known as Blue Meanies.

Cased the other 3 yesterday and 2 have pins already. These things are fast. S2B 2/17

Straight up Shoebox TEK up till pinning. I moved the first tub to tent after it pinned. I put the lid back on after harvest and it was doing so well I decided to try dub tubbing it for second flush. So far doing great. Going to let the second 3 shoeboxes grow in the shoebox a bit this time I think. May try a dub tub first flush depending on how they look.

I have a bunch of worm castings sitting in my basement and am thinking about using my PC to pasteurize some of it this afternoon.

I have an induction burner that has a temperature read out and could set it to 160 and that lets me set a timer so if I can dial it in it should work pretty well.

Does anyone else pasteurize in their PC?  I think my question mostly boils down to, lid on or off?  Or maybe on but not latched?

I just can't get over how fast these TTBVI are  Shame they don't put out much weight. Got 9g Dry from first flush. Second flush looks fuller though.

Second flush is looking pretty good dub tubbed in first pic. First flush other 3 S2B 2/17. Just nuts the growth rate.

I gave a guy a gram, and he took 0.25 and had an excellent time.  Weight maybe low, but the amount of actives I can get out of that weight seems excellent.

9 grams at 3-4% is around 300mg of actives, yeah?

Plus, it's easier to dose in capsules and less risk if someone gets caught with them in a prohibition state.

I pasteurize in my presto 23 qt pc. I think lid on weight off gets the internal temp up quicker. Never tried with convection set to 160 but I would think it would work similar to when I use an instant pot set to keep warm like explained in the joc pan tek. For this one I let it go for at least 6 hours because my instant pot only gets to 150 on the keep warm setting but it seems to work.

So with the convention set to 160 would be kind of a mix of those 2 I would think. Probably use your own judgement but I think an increased pasteurization time might help depending on how quickly a convection oven heats things up. With the instant pot set at keep warm it takes like 2 hours just to get the internal temperature up to 145. And then I just go for another 3 or 4 hours because I don't think there's much risk of over pasteurizing at that low a temp. 160 probably not at long.
That's my experience with that but take into account I'm still working on a successful pan grow. But those methods have worked for me with cubes.

Have you tried Rosco's Dehydrator pasteurization TEK? Been working great for me. I can do enough for 3-4 shoeboxes at 1 time with Black cow at 1.5 qt per shoebox.

Epic fail on these 12 jars. All from the same culture. Not one pin. On a good note all these failures are helping me improve my techniques. I built a little incubator and I'm getting healthier faster colonization. (Possibly because I'm able to lock in the temperature to 74/75 degrees and also airflow when a little computer fan pumps in warm air from a heat box I made for the greenhouse.
Honestly I've tried numerous methods and I've taken advice but I think this culture is either a non fruiting strain or has some kind of parasite bacteria that I can't evade even with water agar. So I tossed that culture.

Earlier this month I posted about some cambo plates with weird orange yellow growth

At the advice of supatharipper  I decided to put those plates to grain. Growth was very wispy but looked more typical of what I've seen on this site for pans. So I'm hopeful for this one. 3 quart jars colonized in about a week and spawned to bulk substrate yesterday.

Also for the hell of it I decided to make an LC from a Goliath spore syringe from corps works. The LC looked good so I made some 5 lbs grow bags and inoculated directly with LC. I referred to posts by Blue Helix for this may he rest in peace.

Hopefully I can finally get some pans soon. We shall see.

I typically grow using a martha, with a space heater placed outside of the tent to heat the room.

I recently built a JCM in another room, but Iโ€™m running into an issue where a lot of condensation builds up underneath the lid, which then drops down onto my trays and creates pooling on the substrate. Iโ€™ve tried placing insulation on top of the lid, and also tilting the lid, but neither has fixed the issue.

For those running a JCM in a room that is a lot colder (e.g. 60-65 degrees) than the chamber (e.g. 75-80 degrees), how do you combat the condensation issue? I realize I could get a space heater to warm the room up higher, but was curious if someone had a lower cost / lower tech way of solving.

Just an idea. You could use a tarp or something to build a little tent that you can put the tub inside of. That could act as a sort of vapor barrier to the outside air. Not sure if you would have to heat that tent up or if it would be enough. Also keep in mind it would restrict air flow so you might need a fan. You probably need to play around with it but it would be cheaper than heating the whole room. I use something similar for my greenhouse because I live in the top floor of a building where my ceiling is the roof of the building and it's uninsulated. So basically like an attic with no insulation. Constant temperature fluctuations.
