Those are Natalensis, they have subdecurrent gills that extend down the stem a bit.

Ok and thank you for that. It's important because I'm trying to help my son and trying all different varieties of mushrooms

My slow growing low-spore natalensis culture keeps putting out heavy overlay. I've grown various selections from germ plates out to T3 and have about 7 bags going. The oldest had small pins growing through the overlay 2 months after spawn to bulk. After 4 weeks of not growing, I finally cut them down and am getting a more normal flush of mushrooms that are growing. This was the only nat culture to pin. Some cased with coir, some cased with jiffy, some uncased. All overlaying.
What would you guys recommend for next steps? Clone one of the normal sized mushrooms once it's grown up? Swab spores and go back to to germination on agar? Find a new spore print to start over?
Thanks!
Pics about 2 weeks apart:

Anyone have any estimates on length of time nat spores need to start germinating on agar?
I've seen some reports of 6-8 weeks, but I'm also reading that it can be a pretty aggressive colonizer.
Thanks for any and all input!!
Apologies if this is discussed elsewhere in this thread. I don't have time to read through 500+ pages!

Mine showed signs in like 4-5 days from a multi-spore syringe

I've got a lot of (I think?) metabolite patches getting wider in two natalensis tubs. Temps are ~71-75ish but these two tubs are closest to the heat so may be higher. The patches are at the far end from the heat source so not sure if that's it. My set up is a bit janky and this is my first time cultivating anything.
Just coir, ~1:2, spawned 2/11. Unmodified tub, lid flipped since spawn. I've been misting twice a day, letting the mist fall. The substrate was drying in patches so I might have been misting too much to compensate.
I read way earlier in this thread of someone complaining of nothing but overlay and metabolites, but I'm not 100% sure if that's what's going on, and no idea what if anything to do about it. I thought the tubs might be dry so I gave them a little side watering.
Here's progression in one tub, first pic is 2 days ago, second is today.

Anyone can offer some insight into what problem I'm dealing with here?

If you scroll to the bottom of the page the search function there is specific to the thread you're in.
I'm not as smart as all the nice comments in my ratings suggest, just a fucking search ninja

Mind blown, thanks tree frog!!
So I've had spores on agar for almost ten days. Safe to say this is still within a healthy germination window?

If it were me in the land where I have all the money, I am king and everyone agrees with me I'd case 1/4 inch thick in 50/50 peat/verm casing hydrated to field capacity with water mixed at 6 grams hydrated lime per gallon water and then adding 3% gypsum by wet weight then pasteurized at 140f for two hours. I've found that serves as a good signal that "hey bro .... you're out of food and it's sexy time." Then again that's just how I do it. It might, or might not work as well for you as it does for me.

Definitely within the window.
There's a lot of environmental factors that can affect germination times aside from viability too.
I have some Pans germinating for example that would probably appreciate it if the room was a bit warmer.

I'm going to case my nat overlay after I harvest this next small flush. There are several blue bruised areas on the overlay from where water previously pooled a bit. The overlay doesn't really bead up with water like the rest of the mycelium does. The surface just gets shiny.
On my cased nat bags, I am noticing a few pins popping through. They are still growing slower than my semperviva.

I've got some weird nats going

-------------------- Don't worry mate, what you're gonna feel is a slight burning in your heart, your lungs, your brain, your kidneys, your liver, bottom of your feet, your eyeballs, then you start bleeding from your nose and ears, then you start tripping out and seeing everything in the form of an anime cartoon which is really fucking cool.

Picking the tiny pins that aborted bruised the mycelium. At least I think that's what this off-coloring is. I don't think it's mold, but I'm not sure. It hasn't spread. I'm going to try casing from now on.

Thank you PhreakFakt0r!
I gathered from your response that nothing was in dire need of change. After thinking about what to do for 2 days, I have pins. Hurray for waiting and doing nothing.

Now I make tea with just enough water to allow me to take my mush as a chaser. Just knock it back and swallow, I find cold with lemon to way more palatable.
Like mine in chocolate. Never liked the taste of mush. I add a little cannabis infused MCT oil as well, for every 7g mush I use 14ml MCT oil. Helps the mush mix with the chocolate.
We like Mango Salsa Tek (Mango Tek). Now I make #1 capsules. They average .3 g and are super easy to dose. No tummy trouble.

I can't believe how fast nats grow! This is after about 4 days of germination:

And these were just transferred yesterday!!

I fucking love nats!!!
