brow rice spawn 1:2 6 days old surface looking so sexy that I'm afraid of fucking it up with the cactus soil casing ...since the soil is 95% peat and 5% sand at 6pH, gonna try to bring it up to 8pH with Lime and Gypsum and do 50%soil 50%verm. Got another tub just with verm, so let's see

I think one more transfer from the right side and the sector I was aiming for will be isolated. The other part went to the earlier LC for testing so if I don't kill it, that should be fun.

for those using just wet verm as casing: does the mycelium usually munch on it like it was coir?... getting an overlay in here...

That one was 1.6% agar, 1.6% wheat malt extract, 0.16% yeast. I had a big bag of agar that I was trying to use which was producing very fucky growth and then I switched to this, other things look pretty good on it now
a melmak tissue clone T1 on that recipe for reference

as you can see, the peculiar halo immediately around the transfer is also present and then the growth breaks out into proper morphology(excuse the spectacular condensation please), much as the Semp plates do
I am curious enough about those weird looking Semp plates to persist with a transfer but I will not mess with the same print again. A generous fella has been kind enough to reach out and provide me some new starting material... eagerly anticipated, it will be plated up immediately, and I guess this series will become obsolete anyway

ime casing should happen after full colonisation when knots begin to appear. i used ph adjusted (aporox 5 to 10 percent limestone) peat/verm mix. as a result i have yet to see green on my semp casings. seems the ph adjustment helps a lot in preventing mould. i would also recomnend to pasteurise the casing mix properly and then store it for a while before use (i keep it in the fridge in a jar) especially if you are using limestone as it is a slow acting. apply a quarter to half an inch, don’t press it hard. it should be at field capacity or slightly above. just my 2 c about it
@gleyck sorry for totally not answering your question though

Almost ready to print. Some are really going already, notice the spore deposits on top of some of the fruit. I'll probably print tomorrow evening

Pretty cool. I’m really curious to see if we might eventually get some really big subtrop phenotypes.

Nice
There’s a lot of diversity in phenos already just looking at the pics in this thread. From the thin yellow ones with spaghetti stems to the bell caps one the thick white stem and bi color cap. Very distinct and identifiable phenos.

i am pretty sure spaghettism is not a genetic trait but a lack of FAE
pic tax:

@everybody do you also get the strands of darker ropey growth pretty soon as colonisation is done?

Agreed on spaghetti caused by lack of fae
