Hi!

I have often seen mushrooms shaped like this here (in the Los Angeles area), but they have always spore printed and always dried to about the same color as they were, regardless of handling. However, these took on a very dark cap color after being pushed on and handled when they dried.

Interestingly, the ones that were not rinsed with water or handled dried lighter brown. The gills are brown, matching the cap's color. Mushrooms that resemble these have always spore printed for me, but I was also surprised to see that these didn’t leave any spore prints other than dropping a couple larger chunks of material, as you can see on the aluminum.

These mushrooms were growing in whatever fertilizer the store had, along with some dead leaf material, as it was in an indoor pot growing a banyan tree that had shed some leaves. Additionally, I had applied cow manure as a top layer of fertilizer.

I'm curious if these might belong to the Bolbitiaceae family.

My primary question is whether they could be very harmful if ingested. While drying them, I noticed a large group of ants took a keen interest in them. However, some of the ants around the mushrooms were moving very, very slowly and behaving very strangely that seemed to ingest some of the material. I haven’t observed any deaths among the ants yet, but they must either be sick and poisoned or experiencing some unique effects!

Thank you for your time and insights!

They look like Conocybe sp. to me. Potentially toxic. Not worth picking but probably good for the soil

They look somewhat deliquescent in the fourth picture, so I'm thinking something close to the following species:

Thank you! More are popping up with darker caps (and the ants were all fine β€” they are gone this morning!) But I will mix them all back into the soil for the tree  Thank you!
