Correlation between growth speed (on agar) and potency?
    #28668858 - 02/20/24 09:13 PM (4 months, 3 days ago)

So I’ve been reading through the agar teks on the hitchhiker’s guide (thank you btw!) such as bods and c10’s.

And then some more about choosing areas of the mycelium to transfer and isolate such as taking the edges of obvious strains that are growing faster and further out from the inoculation point in the dish.

I assume doing this results in faster colonization and perhaps faster fruiting, but do we have any info on potency by this method of selecting the “best looking” bits in the dishes.

Forgive me if I haven’t found the right threads that may already cover this. I probably am searching the wrong words.

Nope it's all done by isolating and then testing which most of the time to get exact results your gonna send it off to a lab and of course the handy dandy you test lol you see which one is most potent

Unfortunately no. It cannot be done by eye with dried fruits either

Interesting! Is there a link where I can find more info?

So what parts of the mycelium do we want to transfer for better results? I’m speaking generally I know, but I just started my research.

Essentially I’m trying to avoid doing bunches of transfers to isolate something that appears to be stronger in terms of growing nice and healthy looking mycelium only to end up with some “lite” fruits.

Is using agar essentially just a way of 1. Making sure you have clean inoculates and 2. To be able to pull the good strains out of MSS and then test each one and categorize/log them? A means of keeping things more organized so to speak. Instead of just dumping random spores onto grain?

Agar allows you to get clean inoculations, yes. You are able to clone fruits with specific traits. You would need lab analysis to determine potency in order to seek that specific trait out though
