Quote:

In election cycles with incumbent presidents running for re-election, the race for the party nomination is usually pro-forma, with token opposition instead of any serious challengers and with their party rules being fixed in their favor.[75][76] The 2020 election was not an exception; with Donald Trump formally seeking a second term,[77][78] the official Republican apparatus, both state and national, coordinated with his campaign to implement changes to make it difficult for any primary opponent to mount a serious challenge.[79][80] On January 25, 2019, the Republican National Committee unofficially endorsed Trump.[81]

Several Republican state committees scrapped their respective primaries or caucuses,[82] citing the fact that Republicans canceled several state primaries when George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush sought a second term in 1992 and 2004, respectively; and Democrats scrapped some of their primaries when Bill Clinton and Barack Obama were seeking reelection in 1996 and 2012, respectively.[83][84] After cancelling their races, some states immediately pledged their delegates to Trump,[85][86] while other states later held a convention or meeting to officially award their delegates to him.[87][88]

Let's talk about 2016, bro. Saying the Democratic party is the purveyor of Democracy is what is fucking absurd.

Autocratic?

I dunno, at least Republicans allow their party to choose the nominee.

Dude incumbent presidents seeking a second term get renominated as a formality. That’s the way the system has worked my entire life with very few exceptions. Democrats and republicans. It’s just bizarre that you single out democrats. The RNC put their full support behind Donald Trump in 2019, and did not give any support to any challengers to him. There were no debates. Trump won all but one delegate.

I dunno about formality, more strategy. Presidents that get primaried generally lose the general. IIRC Carter was the last sitting president to get primaried.

Even with the scandal Ted Kennedy had a 2 to 1 polling advantage over Carter early on and won 12 primaries. If he was a little better at drunk driving Reagan might have never happened.

Wonder how many Kennedy voters say out the election after a bruising primary.

Also, Carter was too honest to be president for two terms.

What is your point? Bernie sanders did not even get close to winning the nomination in 2016. It’s been 8 years. Stop being such fucking crybabies. When did crying about losing an election become a decade long project for some people?

Despite the undeserved reputation, Clinton supporters are the only group that have gotten over losing an election like normal people used to.

Dick Cheney shot someone in the face on a hunting trip “on accident” the Republican party has been on a steady decline ever since then. They have devolved into ghouls these last couple years.

It’s that easy. Let’s not make general sweeping statements about entire running parties, based off of sole participants in it.

The sword cuts both ways in a two party system.
Right now, the Republicans happen to be not very sharp at all. They can’t even pass funding for their own border funding “crisis.”
It would also aid Israel and Ukraine. But all they wanna do is this

The Republican party has been in steady decline since Reagan... The Alzheimer-patient-in-Chief... Now the Democrats have their own APiC... So... I guess it's all downhill from here.

Here’s an unpopular opinion. The entire primary process is stupid. It’s a huge waste of time and money. It makes presidential campaigns stretch over multiple years. We should go back to the way we used to do it, and the way every other democracy in earth does it. Political parties should nominate the candidates at political conventions. I’ve never participated in a primary where my vote mattered because my primary is in May and everything is already decided by then. Democracy isn’t where everything is decided by Iowa, and New Hampshire, and South Carolina.

Quit adding shit duuuude! I hit "quote" and there's like a whole extra paragraph in therrr...

It's funny though, I went on to make another sweeping (Yet totally accurate) generalization. You're right, my sword does cut both ways. Koods's on the other hand...

Btw... FUCK aiding Israel AND Ukraine. Btw... We DO have a border problem... I think both parties agree on that. Rand Paul actually tried to pass a bill that would decouple things like funding for the border, and funding for Ukraine... That would have been great.

What point? That Clinton can win rigged elections? Sure... She just can't win general elections against the likes of Donald J Trump! :laugh2:

Bernie would have handed him his ASS. You should be upset.
