First goto shroomery.org then goto  Mushroom Hunting FAQ Then click on "locations" then click on "which mushrooms grow wild in my area". Lucky man you get a wide selection of active mushrooms in your area!

Hehe ya man just to be sure I didn't mean to be mean but the FAQ can help you more than anybody on the boards really can.

well, you're not quite right there but you are right about people needing to read the FAQ.

hashmaster, your post is in violation of the rules of this forum, otherwise soeone would have been more inclined to answer. if you are not satisfied with the results of checking the faq then do a search in the forums, then come back. good luck man.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

do a search for "psilocybe semilanceata description" and pay just as much attention to the physical, habitat and seasonal info as you do to the pictures. pictures are of minor importance to msuhroom identification compared to the other data.

libs are out of season, though I think someone posted a shot of a handful or so a few weeks back. it's pretty unlikely that's what you have. in any case, if you want help identifying what you found, take a sporeprint, post a description and get pictures or a scan of the mushrooms if possible.

DH

the mushrooms you found are not psilocybe semilanceata, this is the wrong time of the year in your area for them. i want you to study them and get used to comparing mushrooms you find with physical descriptions of species you think they might be. you will get used to what the characteristics in a description mean.

one diffrence i see with these mushrooms are that the stems are brown...and libs have white/off white stems dont they? and the caps on these ones are not sticky..

one more thing...The best time to hunt is after a day or so after a rain fall?

Thanks

for mushrooms in general, the best time is after several days of rain when it hasn't been dry verry long before.

semilanceata stipes are white when in pristine condition but will darken somewhat with aging, weather or a lot of handling [not to mention the bleing reaction]. they will not become verry dark at any point.

i'm not sure if there are any P. semilanceata in your specific area, but you will be able to find out with some online searching or later in the fall by getting to know thier habitat and looking in it.

Well, you can look, but I don't think you'll find any active Psilocybes in central BC.
Your best bet is to go west in the fall. Oct-Nov are the best times.

your best bet may be Panaeolus subbalteatus. you will not find P. cyanescens or P. baeocystis and you probably won't find P. semilanceata.
