Anyone here tap maples? 6

I had about 40 buckets last year, got some pretty good yields.

I'm pretty busy this year and the weather has been so crazy I'm not sure if I'll tap or not maybe only 5 or 10 buckets just to get the taste back. It's a lot of work but it's delicious and I enjoy gifting it to friends and family.
Anyone else?

Plenty of silver birch around my parts, I tapped some trees a few years ago. I didn't boil the sap down but used it as some nice smooth drinking velvet water, very refreshing I thought.

Ah cool man. I heard boiling birch sap is even more labour intensive than maple. Yield is something like 100:1 eh?

Take a 1 litre mason jar
Fill it up with maple sap
Drop 2 teabags in, I used green tea
Leave it in the fridge 24 hours
Taste like Arizona ice tea

This the most Canadian post i ever saw. Do you just do it on crown land? Or do you own those trees? Are there laws about where you can tap?

I asked the future god of the internet, so it looks like approximately half as much sugar in the birch sap than the maple sap. Half the reward for the same amount of work. But it says the flavour is a lot different, so maybe be worth trying to make some birch syrup for a different experience?

I have 11 acres and my neighbor has 20, I tap on my property and some on his (with his permission). You can tap on crown land but you need a permit from the MNR (ministry of natural resources). There are so rules like how many taps per trees, etc.

Maybe worth a try, apparently the taste isn't as sweet, it's more of a savory flavor used in cooking a lot of the time.

Ended up putting out 20 buckets yesterday, got a hell of a warm snap, took my son out to check them this afternoon some where overflowing. Over 50L in one day from 20 bucks, amazing haul, will be boiling this weekend.

Man this sounds amazing.
Thatโs the dream right there haha, maple farmer.
Tapped a red maple I used to have in my back yard a few times..delicious to drink and made delicious syrup.
Always wanted to tap birch..one day.
