I have a shoebox of supped HWFP fully colonized with ovoid myc from oats. It colonized in my grow room at 70-75F but once done I put it in my closet that’s 60F. Should I case it? Any advice? Maybe use it to spawn outside patch when it warms up a bit? I also have another quart of oats that’ll be ready in a week. Should I try sterilized wood chips instead? What’s the best way to trigger pinning for these guys and how important is temps

Last fall I submerged mulch in water in this bucket, then drained it out two weeks later. Then I tossed some Ovoid stem butts in, and tossed the bucket in the shed and mostly forgot about it. Here it is about a year later.
Should I bring it inside? Anything I should be doing to keep the mycelium happy?
Thanks

I read about someone putting a sterilized woodchip onto a clean agar plate of cyanescens. I assume this person put that colonized woodchip to more chips. Is this likely to actually work? Ive never seen anyone else mention this method but it does sound ingenius.

I've done ovoids, the India WL and just last night dumped some maple and pine on Aucklandiae agar. Yes, these chunks go to small jars of sterilized wood->bags of sterilized->then eventually outdoors.

Got a little envious seeing ovoids coming inside,so grabbed some out of a big bed to see what happens.Quite a lot of life springing out with the misting warm springtime of an indoor scenario. Then this little snail slimed out or I guess they slime around or maybe they glide around is more what they do,I asked'em but alas nothing but the soft soothing sound of gliding up a plastic tote.

So basically a slant in a dish? Seems to me that the myc would only have time to colonize the exterior surface of the wood in the agar dish. Are you just trying to skip grain, or is there another purpose? Seems like a lot of work for very few inoculation points worth of spawn, but maybe I'm missing something. Do you mind going into the "why" a bit more?
Also, how's your experience with the India WL so far? Finally got some going from a very light print that I'm making the first transfers of here in the next couple days.

Wait, what? There is a process here to "self-ban"? Can't people just not log in when they want to take a break? Guess I've been doing it wrong all these years.

A self ban ensures that a person cannot log back in and forces a break. We all know you're superior to everyone else, you don't have to brag about it in every other post.

Does anyone use supplemented hardwood sawdust for indoor grows? is there a reason wood chips are typically preferred over this substrate?

It is not good. They eat woodchips. Not bran, not grain, not BRF... woodchips.

I was using 1/4 pint jars with agar in the bottom so I could get a small bit of wood spawn then transfer to pint then bag. It started as an experiment with ovoid agar leftover after a transfer. It worked so I copied the idea w/the other two.
The India WL is growing beautifully on some big chunks of sterile maple. I'll use the bag to start a trashcan.

This does not answer my question. I have found that woodchips are pretty bad for basically all gourmet species, they take up space and are barely colonized by the time the bag is cashed. I am just curious as to why woodchips are preferred when dealing with actives, like longer colonization times? There has to be a reason other than they just like wood.
