New to Agar, lions mane fail?

My first time using agar. Used a still air box, sterilized everything with alcohol, used a sterile scalpal to cut a small chunk of mycelium from a lions mane fruiting block. 2 days later agar plates looks like this, I have heard lions mane grows out weird on agar but I'm assuming this is mold in my case correct?

i would assume that's mold yes. success would look like myc forming from your sample in the center. you may get some contam on the edges, but you would slice out a healthy portion and grow it out on new agar.
try again. i haven't personally heard of agar work being done in a sab, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work or can't be successful. you may just end up with more contaminated dishes per successful dish.

Ok, agar work generally needs a flow hood then?

Not at all; I personally do all my agar work in a small SAB, I only had like two contaminations in the last three or four months. Keep in mind I work with borosilicate glass petri though, I don't pour sterilized agar on sterile plates. I just put the whole unsterilized plates inside the pressure cooker with agar already poured.
A SAB also allows you to transfer healthy mycelium from a mold-infected plate. A flow hood would blow mold spores everywhere.
Here's a picture of a pioppino plate in my messy SAB:

All of these plates were done in the same SAB:

I also do all my agar work in a SAB with high success rate when using proper sterile procedure.
But I would also opt for taking a tissue sample from the inside of the fruiting body rather than a piece of the block. Rip the fruit in half and then cut out a small chunk from the middle most section. Open your plate for just enough time to get your sample in there while using slow and deliberate movements.
