Drying grain after soaking
    #28664912 - 02/18/24 05:23 AM (10 months, 23 days ago)

I am currently using a herb drying rack which you hang up from a hook but it only has 3 layers. I have ordered a larger version as I feel it will dry the grain out more evenly.
After jarring up my grain and sterilising it I have noticed there is a small amount of moisture present which I don’t want and some of the grain is sticking to the jars. How do I get this out without contaminating the sterilised grain? I do have micropore tape covering the small 4mm hole in the lids and have not removed it.
Any tips on how you guys prep your grain would great 👍🏻
I am using this guide but I have not got the ‘perfect’ grain I was hoping for, hence why I have bought a larger herb drying rack as I may have too much drying on each layer and my current herb rack only has 3 layers.

I use giant aluminum turkey pans. The kind you get from the grocery store and use on holidays for large casseroles and meat. Works great. I do my grains in multiple batches and dump them into the pans to dry. They spread out nicely and you can shake the, around without making a huge mess.

I find that 2.5lbs per pan/pot works well and I get great consistency with drying. As soon as it’s done boiling strain it and spread it. If you let it sit the grains will keep cooking and can get mushy and split open.

It’s important to also shake the jars a bit after you take them out of the PC to get them nice and even with no wet spots.

Edit: I never let my jars cool in the PC. In my opinion this tends to lead to wet spots in the bottom.
