A couple of weeks ago I was in this thread complaining about my off-brand MP tape filters stalling my 1L grain jars. I'm happy to report that with my new ez felt filters, I no longer have any issues. Here's one of my new jars on day 13, a day or two away from full colonization.

The difference is obvious now, with these filters I can actually smell the contents of the jar after I shake them. With 2 layers of that MP tape I couldn't smell anything no matter how hard I tried.

Thanks :super:

So on point one.

How long do they take to recover and what temperature is the room they're in?

I ask about temperature because low temps can cause longer recovery times.

But if you're temperature is 70+, a long recovery sounds like bacteria.  Which will weaken the mycelium and make it more vulnerable to trich when you spawn

Id recommend adding hydrated lime to your grain prep. Grains are full of microbial toxins and are often sprayed with antifungal compounds.

Washing them with a drop of soap and then rinsing thoroughly is how I address this.

I don't believe my grains have antifungals sprayed on them though.

What the fuck's going on here? Half the shrooms have holes in their caps and appear to be decomposing  and the other half look really weird compared to my other tubs. They look like little rotting penises (penai?). I've been running g2g's for a while with the same iso and a few of my tubs now are showing a fair bit of yellow while still producing, I think it's definitely time to go back to agar.

How often should LC be stirred or agitated and for how long?

Give it a couple of good shakes over a week. Literally just shake the shit out of it for a few seconds.

I just stir mine every day until I'm ready to use it. Sometimes I miss a day or two, it really.doesnt matter. I make small batches and use the entire batch in one shot.

I can't say for sure but I think something is eating your fruits. Maybe mites? I'd try and look close and see if you see anything moving around.

Yeah I just give mine a hard shake after the wedge gets fuzzy, and then again once the new fuzz gets bigger. Then let it sit. Usually ready to use in 10 days. After that it’s shelf stable until ready to use

Nice dense canopies are a result of 3 things:

1: Ideal surface conditions. Usually a result of trial and error with the right amount of FAE and moisture for your environment. Dialing in your substrate prep to get it to field capacity is super important. Lightly tamping or compressing the soil to make it even helps with avoiding pools of water.

2: Isolating your culture. When you inoculate your agar plates, you often will have multiple different mycelium colonies growing at once. If you transfer small sections from agar, you essentially zoom in on the site of the transfer and it becomes easier to zero in on a specific colony. You'll want to select the fastest growing portion for its aggressive growth. It's important to have just one colony growing on grain so it doesn't have to compete with another for nutrients and can put all its energy into producing fruits. It also helps with pinning, as the whole fruiting block will pin at pretty much the same time.

After this, you will want to clone the flesh of the best fruit, isolate the culture, and fruit it. You still won't get perfect canopies but the fruits should cluster more and more with each repetition. Eventually, around the 4-6th run of clones you will have the canopy dialed in and a decent stock of identical cultures that you can propagate to new plates to keep alive that will produce the full canopy every time.

3: Working with genetics. When people get into genetics and run multiple generations of spores, it allows them to select and isolate the best of the best in every category. So if you wanted to get into it, you would select your favorite fruit, clone it, transfer it a few times to make sure the clone is an isolated culture, fruit it, then clone the best fruit and repeat the process until you have a full canopy of beauties. Then you take spore prints from the best fruits and germinate them, isolate and clone until you get a full canopy again, and repeat the process 2-5 more times until you get exactly which phenotype you're looking for every time you germinate the spores. They won't produce full canopies every time but will definitely make sure the fruits become predictable; they will all look pretty much the same, grow to about the same size, and have similar potency.

Oftentimes the genetics you get will be pretty high quality  as is and you'll only really need to isolate the culture and make sure you have ideal surface conditions. Genetics is all just for kicks and giggles and if you want to create something new, you can try mating monokaryons from your favorite spores

Some “Glamour” shots for today w/ questions:
Interesting but cool looking growth on this transfer plate - why the concentric rings?

This is supposed to be TPB - what’s up with the pale ones?

Getting ready to try making chocolate bar(s) tomorrow.. not sure how much to use though.. what is a recommended amount to use per oz of chocolate?

How long do i really need to pc 500ml of agar at 20 pounds?? I have been going 30 min, but I see folks doing 15 pound for 15 min. So I know I can go less, but I like overkill on sterile.

Similar to very old dish mine when I was struglin with enmesh bacteria,

Not sure if I was able to pull out something out of it, probably out of dish(O2B2) to dish(O4B2), After 3&4th xfer.

Hope others may chime in their exp aswell.

I'm beyond excited. This is my first go at cultivation. I dove in head first , made plenty of nooby mistakes. Honestly thought I had screwed the pooch on these bad boys (mss straight to a pre sterilized all in one, as well as made lc from mss). I have since started using agar and following all the up to date info I read here to a t. Still experimenting to find what works best. That said , leading to my questions,

I have the mss nocked AIO, it was the first to pin, and I think I cut the bag too low, too much, too soon. I'm assuming that's the reason that the whole canopy stalled out and has formed a chode Forest. I haven't noticed any significant growth on there for about 2 or 3 days.

My shoeboxes that I spawned from WBS (still used my MSS LC, which I did test on agar and it was clean somehow but still a bunch of competing strains). The boxes came in much more evenly and grew the way I would expect. This morning they reached the lid and started pushing it up so I dubbed it. While I was in there I noticed what I think is fuzzy feet. Looking for confirmation that is what I'm looking at , as well as making sure that the proper thing to do would be increase FAE in the shoebox? Thanks in advance. I'm just so happy to have a successful grow. I wanna make sure I get better with every box.
