Commercial adhesive filters for grain, syringe filters for my LCs. Think I should experiment with syringe filters for grain?
No.
I did. They don't supply enough GE to a qt jar. Stick with your filter discs.
I'm stumped to be honest. Because it's everything I doubt it's your sterile technique in the SAB. You can leave your clothes on by the way lol
I'm actually thinking it's your coir. That the quality might be low and it has nutritive material mixed in somehow. Or, are you prepping grains and coir in the same bucket?
My next step would be to pasteurize the coir or switch brands if you have something else available.
Actually, are you sure your LCs are clean?

Greetings, I recently inoculated my first grain with LC, I've only ever done PF tek until now.

How is the grain looking for 7 days post inoculation? I know condensation is a bit high, I want to rectify that when I do grain jars again. Also when do I shake, or what parameters am I looking at for readiness?

With an LC I shake when they look like that. Distribute the moisture and the recivered mycelium.
The jars look great! Brave going to LC after PF tek. Did you jose poke?

Did you soak your rye? That’s an important step in my opinion.
I've been having really bad bacterial bags which I think boiled down to bad LC. In the process of elimination I've been recommended to use Spitball's tek:

Leaving for three days is fine too.
I'm used to running commercial edibles from lc on millet. So I shake pretty early compared to a lot of active growers out of habit.

And spoil Triskelope's fun? Never! I was thinking of shaving my chest and sending some pictures

I think I'll try a new coir brand. Easy enough. I've still got some left, so I think I'll put a batch through a PC cycle, just to see what happens.
Anyway, thanks for the support, folk. Happy growing!

Ok so I didn't do the poke, it was just an LC syringe my friend gifted me. It's natalensis he says. I'll wait a while longer to shake in that case.
I see.. I only grew lion's mane, so on grains you have to shake edibles early? Interesting..

I don’t think it’s your coir. I’ll bet it you document carefully your process step by step for us we will find it. Not to be rude, but I have a hunch there’s probably a gigantic hole in your sterile technique that’s very obvious to us but not obvious enough to you to even mention.
Do a separate writeup and show us in 100% complete detail how you do each step. I bet we find it.

Not have too. Get too. They're aggressive, and the millet gives you tons of inoculation points. At least with the commercial cultures I'm using that have been bred to run on millet lol
Often they're so quick I give them extra shakes to slow the fuckers down while I catch up.

My guess now is the LC.
Use that josex poke! I have a flowhood and have a 95%+ success rate with everything else. I still fucked up LCs until I started poking.
But I agree a thread documenting everything would be good.

Hey, is there a thing like a thermometer, but it measures the moisture? I know at the grow stores and nurseries they have something that you immerse in the soil and it says too wet or too dry, but I'd like something that shows the moisture content I need so I could then know what to look for.
Started on 1/1 with spores, and my first shoeboxes are pinning/baby mushrooms, and I think I should be further along, which makes me think moisture was off or something.

The tool in question is a hygrometer, but it isn’t useful for growing cubensis mushrooms. If that’s what you intend to cultivate, you can skip out on purchasing it.

They're also not terribly accurate at high humidities with other species. They get saturated and then don't read well. I run an InkBird which is a humidty controller with a hygrometer built into it. It does pretty well under 95% but over that it will stall out until it dries out enough to read.
But they can be helpful for dialing in jcm's and stuff like that for fruiting exotics.
