I've just thrown out several shoeboxes all made in the same time period, all with the same problem, so my process is clearly broken. The boxes had different genetics, all of which have grown clean on BRF. I took the shrooms to rye berries, the grain looked good, with no contam that I could see, took to coir that went through overnight bucket tek, and all my shoeboxes did this:

Trich before the myc even had a chance to cover the top. Here you can see the mean green is not even on the surface, but on the side. This happened for my Jack Frost, Inca Stargazer and normal GT. I'll start today with a clean set of rye, and I will PC for 2.5 hours, not 90 minutes, eliminate dirty grains. Any other obvious changes anyone can suggest? If coir does not contaminate, and "trich causes trich", to quote from one of the posts by a Shroomery Great (I did a lot of searching and reading before asking here), the spawn must not have been as clean as I thought, or I somehow mixed trich into the shoebox when I made it. Not too sure how to change that - dedicated shroom room, small with no fans or other air movers, recently painted walls and ceilings, plastic tiles on the floor that I wash with bleach, I wore a long sleeve clean shirt misted with ISO, wore a mask, washed and ISOd surfaces and shoeboxes, wore gloves. I thought I'd be laughed off the Shroomery for being a paranoid noob with all those precautions and I'd just never tell anyone, yet here I am crying my eyes out.
I made that coir almost under field capacity - had to squeeze hard to get a drop out. I didn't even mist the top covering layer of coir as some folks recommend. I thought dryness would actually be a problem. Yet, you can see the sides of the shoebox are wet.
I also read some shoeboxes don't seal too well. You'll see I wrapped the lid and box with clingwrap where they come together - nothing got into that box after I sealed it. What I did wrong must have been at time of manufacture.
Any insights and suggestions most welcome.

Long sleeve shirt is the only thing that seemed questionable. That would potentially have dust in it, which would be a major vector point for contamination in my opinion. Typically, I’ll just wear a T-shirt and sanitize all the way up my arms and the gloves.
Edit: I just thought I’d add on. I know you said it was clean. But the lint trap anywhere in your house. The drawer that it came out of. Any dust at all. That’s why I feel like that is possibly the mistake. I wasn’t criticizing your hygiene.

I'm curious about your inoculation technique.
Because the clean room isn't clean. Even with all that effort. I won't laugh except at myself because I used to do the same shit in a closet.
Are you using a still air box?

Yup. Question number 1 and 2: using a SAB? And what was your inoculant?
Also bruv don’t seal your totes. They need to breathe.

No criticism taken, asking for help, so any and all thoughts welcome. Need wild and non-obvious thoughts here. I brushed my teeth, too, and would not be insulted if you asked The room is not connected to my house - one small window and a door leading to my yard. I'll drop the shirt, your feedback makes sense. Thank you.

Yup, SAB. Grain to coir, though, on a table, not covered in anything - open to the air in the room.

Nocced some with agar, others with LC. Had some recent horrible experience with grain bags and LC (bacterial bags) so went back to agar and glass jars.

Ooh is it naked mush cult time?
Sorry for your loss though, that’s so frustrating. Do you happen to have any pics of your grain before you put it to coir? I’m just a noob but more experienced folks could see if something was amiss there.

Sorry, no, they looked really good to me, so didn't bother. Lesson learned: take pics anyway. May come in handy later.

Sorry I meant Jar Lids. Was wondering if you had use any cut up SFDs with RTV silicone

Commercial adhesive filters for grain, syringe filters for my LCs. Think I should experiment with syringe filters for grain?

Did you soak your rye? That’s an important step in my opinion.
