Surface conditions will have higher humidity.
I like ny ambient humidity to not be steady but move within a five to ten percent range. Reason being to promote evaporation and provide fae.
In other words my jcm humidity drops when the fan near it kicks on. And then climbs back up when it's off.

So I guess the context here is I know I was getting too much FAE and my cakes were definitely drying out too much. I'm at the point where I am misting once a day to remain glistening. The course verm makes it hard to see droplets but I definitely am maintaining the glistening. Quick screenshot if anyone sees anything wrong.

I am disabled, that's why I asked. Having a disability is not a character flaw. That disability has also cause me to be homeless and live out of a car when I was younger, which is also not a character flaw.
Unless you've got a hell of a trust fund, good luck skipping the renting step. In the mean time please respect your parents while you are living with them. Their house that they paid for, their rules. That's entirely fair. If you don't like it you can rent your own place and solve every problem you have been complaining about in here

MSS to agar and 3 weeks with no changes. I think my Tek is good because there is no contamination. Are my spores bunk? I received it from a trusted vendor.

How many plates did you put spores on? Iโve had this happen with a few of my plates using perfectly good spores syringes (they worked in BRF cakes and other plates) - I assume I just got all water no spores on those since there was no growth of anything at all.

You asked what to do with your sub on an open forum, then complained that your parents that you live with won't let you do anything. I offered you the exact thing that all the other adults in here are doing, even adding understanding exemptions.
You in fact did ask.
Your two options at this point are either move out of mommy and daddy's house because they have too many rules, or put me on ignore.
Welcome to being an adult.

Oh course I think its funny that I even said I live with my parents. I dont like the fact, but I sure as fuck am not going to rent. Dog shit advice. Either I get a loan and farm, or fail and get everything repossessed anyway. Who cares.
I agree I respect my parents and I wont disobey them. Ill move out pretty soon as I look for land.

I plan to wrap them after i used them to transfer mycelium.
Maybe in a week or so.
Is it ok to leave them unwrapped that long or do they dry out and become unusable?
Should be ok for a little bit as long as no gusts of air hit them. Ive left unwrapped petris in my SAB for a few days until i was ready to use them and they were fine.
That being said my sab has magnetic flaps to block the hand holes so no air gets in it.

Thanks.
These magnetic flaps sound interesting.
I need this too. I currently use tape and everytime i open or close the armholes it feels i'll invite mold this way.
Please elaborate, show pics if you don't mind?

I will caution that flaps of any kind often cause as much turbulence as they prevent.

LadysKnight said: Yes. Which is why it's best to look outside the city. Better to look at the next county over if it's rural. These areas are pretty much left alone and forgotten. Usually a mix of agricultural and residential, aka small farm. But if you build it yourself and no one can see it... Does it truly exist? Especially if you built it underground, in the middle of the woods with grass on the roof? We shall see.
Just to throw on to this: USDA home loans. You can get a home loan with extremely low interest, but there are caveats. The property must be located outside of any metropolitan or city area (they have maps, just basically don't live in the largest city around), you cannot use the property for commercial purposes of any kind, and it has to be on a paved or publicly maintained road.
There are also USDA farm loans for people looking for commercial property, but they are not as simple (relatively) as the home loans.
There's lots of options for getting out of the city. USDA home loans also cover property costs and building costs for a new home. You do not need to be applying for a property with a preexisting structure.

Background: I am prepping whole brown rice (short grain) for grain spawn. After coming out of the PC cycle, there is no residual moisture in the jars, and cutting grains in half shows that the interior is no longer hard and white, but instead is gummy and fairly translucent. This is the case for 100% of grains that were tested.
Question: Is my grain sufficiently hydrated?
Thanks, all!

My current "solution":

If you can ensure there's no moving air in the room you use the SAB, covering the holes isn't necessary. I used to use magnetic covers when my situation didn't really have still air and it might have helped. I don't spray the inside now either and the contam rate is below 10%.

I made 10 petri dishes from spores, of those 3 are colonizing proper, and this one has something in the middle and some mycelium on the edge, is this worth saving or should I just scrap it and use the others.

I donโt see any of my psyllium. I just see contamination. I would not take anything from that plate.
