sclerotia And FAE

Has anyone grown sclerotia or know their requirements for FAE when grown in jars and not spawned to bulk…..
Basically if useing agar ( so no injection port needed ) would one still need to make FAE holes? Because if not then you DRASTICALLY cut down on chances of contamination, you could just stack a bunch of jars in a tote with a rubber gasket and put it in a dirty basement or a shed or a even in a home that has a mold problem…..
For some reason I feel like I’ve seen videos were people had jars with no holes for fae when growing sclerotia but idk it’s still mycelium so hhhhmmm
Guess one could just make one with fae and one without fae but figured it would be a good idea to would run it by y’all so one might get froggy and chuck time and our beautiful friends down the drain for no reason if someone else had already found the answer

yes! a very tiny bit. 1/4" maybe 3/16"-1/8" hole under dime sized thick (not cheapo stick pads) SFD. RTV silicone adhered on top of lid.
You can also use a loose solid lid double wrapped with stretched almost to the max parafilm but it takes longer for full colonization because it is boarder lined suffocating. I do this with the old school glass jar lids.

Your poll is asking the wrong question.
They need Gas Exchange. As the poster above said a quarter inch hole for a quart jar is good. I use the same hole size for half gallon jars and they do fine.

Also, you can skip the RTV (it didn't last long in my experience and required a lot of sanding to get it to stick at all). If you buy wide mouth filter discs you can just put them under the cap between the lid and the jar. The brand I use has some sticky stuff that helps. The discs seem to last a lot of runs like this.

Much thanks, what is SFD or RTV? for an inoculated port up I use high heat red gasket maker and for FAE I’ve always done micropore tape…
I think what is being said is that I can just use my normal lids like it was a grain spawn jar right?
And if I’m stacking jars on top of one another I should not cover the gas exchange hole with the bottom of another jar, I should put some spacers so it can breath, will I need to open the tub I’m stirring all the jars in to let new air in periodically or should I just put the, out on a shelf with the rest of my spawn jars
Sorry for all the questions I just have NO EXPERIENCE in truffles but I want to so i want to make sure It gets done right

Yeah, just use your regular grain jar lids!
Stacking is probably okay. They do love light though so I like to account for that when I do them.
