New user with some getting started questions

Glad to finally be a part of the community after lurking for quite a while. I've dipped my toe in trying to grow mushrooms around 15 years ago, and failed miserably. Started with a spore syringe and tried making LC, and didn't realize it was contaminated which contammed all my jars I was using lol! I also blew up my glove box because I flamed a needle with alcohol fumes present which was pretty hilarious! I now know going from a spore syringe to LC is a bad idea so I'm not doing that again. 15 years later, I'm looking to get back into it, and trying to see this through with some success. This is unfinished business that needs to be finished for me
This time around I've done a fair amount of research and would like to do it the right way. I ordered a PE "isolated" spore syringe from ITW, pre-sterilized agar dishes, made a SAB, and got some sterilized cotton swabs to get me started. I've learned how to make agar myself, but figured to start off with pre-done plates just to give me a little more of an edge over contamination. Not sure if this syringe is LC or not(don't know what they mean by isolated), but regardless my plan is to get some agar dishes going, and then transfer those over to either grain bags or jars. Which brings me to my first question of, for a newbie like myself would you start with jars or bags? I like the idea of using bags just because it seems you can create more grain spawn with them, but I'm gunning for success here. Not looking to take on more complicated ways of doing things until I master the easier stuff first.
What I'd like to gain from this post is if you were me what would be your game plan? My main goal is to learn how to do this consistently, and how to keep genetics from becoming stale and less fruitful/potent. Things to do that essentially keep my work from hitting a plateau, and doing it the right way from the jump. I'm not in a hurry, and just want to start off on a good foot as opposed to rushing right into fruiting without doing the proper groundwork first. So if any of you feel like dropping some knowledge on me I'd be super grateful for any beginner advice. Real excited to get back into the hobby, and eventually contribute to this forum. TIA!!

Smart move starting with agar, you won't regret it later. With the syringe you are getting you will only use a tiny fraction even if you did 20 plates which would be complete overkill. My suggestion is along with the plates get a round of PF Tek jars going so you can watch all of it grow.
PF Tek is a great way to start and learn much about the life cycle of mushrooms as well as being about as fool proof as possible to get some shrooms on your first go round. Use a water tub instead of a SGFC to fruit the colonized cakes too.
Good luck and welcome to the never ending rabbit hole of cult.

Haha! Thanks for the reply! It is indeed a rabbit hole, and I haven't even started. I was always fascinated by mycology, and just doing my research I find myself getting giddy again.
My main reasoning for getting back into this is I've somewhat recently (6 months) kicked an alcohol addiction that was plaguing me for a while. I want to start microdosing as a form of brain reset. I kept reading about people with addiction issues having great success with microdosing, so I figured rather than buy some off a sketchy dealer why not finish what I started years ago? I've been doing great without any intervention of meds, but think it would be a nice little treat for my brain. Gonna start small and see what works/doesn't. This isn't a replacement for booze at all...I'm never going back to that life, so I hope no one thinks I'm trading one for the other. I assure you that's not the case.
I'll definitely look back into the PF method. I remember looking into that back in the day. Good advice.
