Dented lids & only enough mix to make 3 brf jars 2

So I finally began following pf tek, and made sure I followed the instructions from mushroomvideos.com exactly- ended up only having enough for 4 half pint jars and im 100% sure I didn't overfill after looking at other peoples pf jars. After that I began to prepare the lids by making holes using a nail and hammer but I found that around the 2nd or 3rd hole dents would begin to appear. I don't really think this is as much of an issue because it still fits fine but im just curious if any of these are significant issues.

I had the same denting issue with my jars but it was totally fine. None of my jars have gone bad yet - I’ve learned to trust in the layer of dry vermiculite on the top to keep the funk out.

Do not make the holes when the lid is on the jar, just put it on a stable surface, a surface that can be punctured, wood for example, and make the holes there.

Good call, I didn’t have the lids on the jars when I did it but I also didn’t have anything handy I could use to put under mine at the time that I could put holes in, if I ever have to make more I’ll definitely do that.

I just put some stacked A4 paper sheets under them, not to damage the surface I am working on, you can use many things really. It is definitely ok for the lids to be a bit warped, but I like them straight, just for peace of mind.

Not an issue. But hole placement better evenly spaced around the edge. You wanna hit the glass with the needle each hole to inoculate. Should work though. Good luck

Next time put the lid on a piece of wood and hammer with the wooden backing, it avoids denting.
