How much air flow is too much air flow?
    #28658207 - 02/13/24 10:04 AM (10 months, 28 days ago)

I've seen people say keep the tub sealed when transferring to bulk, start airflow when bulk is colonized. I've also seen people say start air flow right away. It sounds starting sealed is the old way, and air flow right away has better results. But what i'm not sure about, how much air flow should i give? I'm using one of those large tubs you buy from vendors. It has 6 holes and comes with 6 plugs and 6 filters. Should i have them all open, or just a few? Do i increase air flow when i see pins, or is this no longer relevant since giving air flow from the start?

I managed to get a successfull grow by providing air to the bulk substrate a few days after placing it into the box.

All i did was opening the lid and let a small crack so air could enter.

I did not use a box with holes and filters, just a regular plastic box with a lid.

And kept an eye on the substrate and sprayed some water once a day, maybe twice a day.

I think that by keeping it super simple you will get fruits, and that heavy control of airflow/humidity etc, even my electronic means is something you want to do if you are in the search for the maximum yeld, performance possible, but it is a research topic, more than a grow topic.

Keep ot simple, give the micellium some air and don't let it dry out.

I know not to let it dry out. I'm asking ahead so i don't over do it. I've seen people making their own tubs, they have tiny holes the size of drill bits. The holes on the tubs you buy online are much larger.

Ya the tubs with big holes normally use some sort if filter material to not allow so much air in. The ones with small holes are what I recommend they are called EZ dial tubs they are my go to and work great.

Also you can use the ezdial set up on smaller tubs as well doesn't have to be the 66qt I've used basically the same thing on 15qt tubs and had great success.

If you take the relative humidity in your house and multiply it by pi then divide it by pi X 4  can get a pretty good starting point for the height of your substrate. This of course is all dependent upon the height you plan on setting you fc at of course. Anything above or below 48.6” and you might as well disregard everything I just said because the answer is clearly anything more than passive is too much. Please don’t take my answer in the wrong way. I’m enjoying an impromptu snow day and good bourbon. Just focus on the passive part.
