All in One B+S Question
    #28655614 - 02/11/24 02:59 PM (10 months, 30 days ago)

Hi Y'all,

Super new to this so howdy! Got 2 all in one bags going in which I inoculated with PE LC about 2 weeks ago. Looks like I have some solid mycelium growth on one of the bags.

Question to the group is when do you think the best time to "Break and Shake" is. The instructions say when the grain is about 30% colonized but over also read to not touch it until 100% of the grain section is colonized. Trying to be as patient as possible and not mess with it. :sun:

30% is fine but things aren't looking so good in there and if you don't ditch the heat mat you are going to cook anything that is in there, Heat the room not the bag.

you can break up and mix just the grain portion of the bag and then wait until it's fully colonized before mixing it all together.

Yss ditch the heat mat, if you room is 65°F-75°F you're good. Either wait until all the grain is colonized or if it's possible to shake only the grain around, that work perfectly, but I'm not too hopeful it can be done. Now that growth is really taking off it may be best to just wait. Maybe try tolling some of the grin portion around very carefully into more contact with the grain layer. If the Inoculant used wasn't MS, and a clean LC, you have a good shot at this working regardless. Never hurts to let the mycelium do its thing once it gets going strong.

One of my early mistakes was constantly shaking jars way too often. I learned years later this causes over stress and lead to contamination, indeed, back in the early days I had lots of green, all the time.

Thanks for the Advice! I just took off the heat matt and I think I'm just going to let it do its thing until it colonizes all the grain. I am a big gardener and I realized the more I messed with my garden - constant fertilizing, moving pots around, ect - the more my plants would die.

Also, I think the growth looks pretty good. I got very scared because the top right of the grain area looks like its turning very green. Funny enough its actually just the logo of the bag written on it in big green letters (it says the word bag in big green letters). Is there another reason to worry here? I'm obvi a noob but I think this looks good haha.

I'd say it looks bacterial, but that doesn't mean it won't fruit, I'd personally avoid shaking it.

The grain part looks ice creamy and covered in metabolites, but it could just be the pic

W8 for other opinions
