Hey y’all!  Thanks in advance for any feedback.  First time grow here.  Jack F.  Curious to know if the white fuzz is normal.  Today is day 14 in the mono tub with manure based substrate.  Took the cover off today an it smells good to me… earthy.  I

Looks to be a serious case of cobweb mold to me. Others may have a better determination than me.

If it were pan cyan, I'd give it some benefit of the doubt but if it's a cube, then I don't think it will yield. JF is 'just a cube' to my knowledge. Poo won't give you any advantage for cubes and will likely only be detrimental to your cause.

But who knows, maybe you'll get some mushrooms. Good luck!

Doesn't look good to me either.  I wouldn't let that deter you from using poo based sub though, especially if the price is right and it's plenty available.  What was your process for pasteurization?  What was your process leading up to spawning?

Thanks!  It might just be.  Probably my fault as to i did not know what I was doing. I put Coco on top of the substrate be4 it was completely colonized, which resulted in the top of the bin being saturated with water condensation, which dropped droplets onto the substrate. It was probably too humid.?

I bought everything from north spore via Amazon.  I injected the grain bag and after about 10 days it was fully colonized so then I mixed it up with the subtract put it in the bin put the Coco on top which I should have not done since what I’ve read  you’re supposed to put it on after it gets colonized and 14 days later this is what I have.  Did my best on spraying everything down with 70% alcohol.

Well, I hope you're able to get something outa this.  I wouldn't suggest any of that process or material but everyone's situations are different.

The ISO part really means nothing if you can't be sure that grains weren't properly sterilized, culture wasn't free from contam or bacteria, and your substrate isn't properly pasteurized.  If you stick around, there's tons of info and methods written out here to follow to help help be certain of those criteria.

That tray is toast. Looks like you’ve got multiple things growing there. I’m seeing signs of trich (6 o’clock position 2” from the edge of container). When the green becomes visible like I think it will, toss the tray. Normally I’m a “let it ride” kinda guy but this tray is bad  in my opinion. Using poo is like playing craps; roll of the dice (unless you have impeccable sanatization methods). Coir is the best way to go.

Moved some of the cobweb and its mold under it. 😢 greenish.

Could this be from the container being to wet inside?  I had water build up on the top of the lid that was dropping down onto the sub and had the big holes on the top cover, covered with tape and the small bb sized holes covered with the micro tape?  I’m thinking that was my problem?  Way too much moisture?

Your spores were possibly contaminated to begin with.  Or your grain bag was possibly contaminated to begin with.  Or you substrate bag was possibly contaminated to begin with.  Or all 3 were possibly contaminated to begin with.

If you stick around and read through the teks here, you can work through each step to assure you have mushrooms to study further.

Next one.  Last one looked just as good.  So the lid raining down onto the sub has absolutely nothing to do with the cobweb?  Just want to be 100% certain.  Thanks an sry for repeating that question.

The excessive moisture doesn’t help but isn’t necessarily the source of the contamination. Those bags look good so far. If you haven’t already done a break and shake I suggest doing that now. If there is any hidden contamination you will know in a day or two because the bag will get nasty. Don’t use any poo on the next tray. Just coir and verm. Just do the bucket tek for coir. It’s super easy and works well.

Yes I’ve done the break n shake.  I’ll look into that other method, thanks.  I still have a few bags of this north spore poo tho and wouldn’t mind using it up.

What’s the ratio of coir an verm?  What about the gypsum?

Verm is not needed. Only use it if you happen to make the coir too wet. Gypsum is redundant

You don’t need gypsum in the substrate. I only use gypsum to keep my rye from sticking together. Most people don’t even do that anymore.

I’m not the one to answer about ratios. I eyeball everything I do. Typically I’m using two quarts per brick of coir. (1.6lb brick) but I don’t measure anything, I just dump it in until I’m happy with the way it looks.

Use the search engine and look for posts from Beefsupreme. He’s got a great method and you will be able to find all sorts of links to the information you seek.

I see trich (bubbly pure white) and some other stuff in there. Definitely toast.

The bags are looking much better.

So use straight coir?  Nothing else is needed?  I’ll definitely try this out.  I have some coir bricks coming and the 5 gal insulated jug like the post on here recommended.    Thinking about buying a grow tent to have a dedicated room that I can keep clean and not have to worry so much about contaminating.

Thanks!  The last one looked just as good so I believe the contamination came from the sub, air or my tube having an excess amount of water dripping down from the lid.  100% humidity for 10 days without opening it… 🤷‍♂️.  I placed coir on top of the sub before it colonized that was probably too wet… you don’t see the coir in the picture because I removed it to stop the water from dripping down.  So maybe when I did that contamination got in…. Definitely doing this one different and without adding a dressing layer

Most of the time that happens your spawn is dirty but it wasn't visible. What brand of coir are you using? I've seen a lot of people complain about eco-earth and other brands but unless you have serious problems with the coir's quality it shouldn't be the source of contams.

The moment you spawn it's open to contams anyway, even the conditions are there, you're just relying on your mycelium to have colonized all of the sensitive parts.
