Ask Melvin.

This one got mostly honey. Little bit of light malt extract. Seems to be doing the best. The maple syrup one seems to be doing the worst.
It was not the clearest honey. So that’s what those little particles are.

Melvin is the name of the man that repeatedly asked Mike Tyson to punch him in the face on an airplane.
Then he asked him for $450,000 after everyone on the plane agreed that he had it coming and wasn’t entitled to sue him.

Honey is usually mostly fructose (some sucrose if the beekeeper is a cheater). Maple syrup is mostly sucrose. Fructose is an easier and more stable sugar. The sucrose in maple syrup has been through a lot of heating already by the time it gets to you.
Brown rice syrup makes crystal clear, 2 ingredient soup. Water and brown rice syrup. The transparent stuff is what you want not the opaque stuff. The opaque stuff works absolutely fine it is just turbid from the start like milk and that is hard for inexperienced people to wrap their head around cleanliness... I use a brand I think it's called blue cloud.
Here is a Kodama plin dropped into rice syrup lc.

As the myc grows the pigment will dissapear. It eventually looks like myc and water with a little gold/sky blue tint.

It’s honestly rather fun. I’m surprised more people don’t play with LC.
I really need to get into the marketplace and find a Azurecen or cyanecen giveaway. If I can get those going in LC. I’m gonna get a lot of bark chips and start working on the yard.
Really excited about it actually. I already did some inoculation on some wood chips for Amanita fly. But I would have to plant those underneath the tree for them to actually do anything. And then they would have to compete with the native species of edible ones that are already there.

Amanita muscaria won't likely compete with anything once established. Sure it will eat some debris but it gets most of what it needs from tree roots and is non competitive. One of the best things you could ever do for a conifer tree is give it some amanita to dance in.
Skip the bark. Most actives aren't into it. Just use wood. Cyanescens and azurescens will eat through 12 inches of good untreated wood chips per year. They build rich black humus faster than anything. Humus generated from wood is incredibly nutritious for plants and very long lived.
Shoot me a privnote. I have some prints I think. Might be az or ovoid or cyanescen.
LC is really fun isn't it? Frankly I look at my LC's as the heart of it all. Jars will sit for years on the shelf. If you can toggle a petri dish you can toggle a jar of LC. Grain is a beautiful demise, and plates are delicate babies and short lived. Spores are dormant. The LC is the life blood in living stasis.
LC is how I like to store cultures long term too.

A drop makes a new plate and the cycle starts over. The best way to "capture the moment" in an ever changing line of cells. Make a batch of LC, and in one flow motion drop a drop on agar, fill a vial or two, put the rest directly on grain. The grain is the true test. The grain will tell you what that batch of LC is all about. The plate is only to have a copy on hand to make more LC should the culture be desirable. You can skip the plate if you plan to retire the culture to the bank for a while. The grain is the test and you will first observe cleanliness and later observe fruiting behavior. The vials are banked and can be drawn upon for many years one drop at a time.
The LC is the heart of it all. All other phases are temporary. Grain is the test, and the beautiful demise. Once an LC is on grain, in that direction the clock is ticking. You can plate up a grain and bring it back to LC for sure, but ultimately the grain is the fond farewell and the tell all. If the batch is great you always have a copy. If it sucks just empty the vials and reuse them. A drop on a plate and a couple filled vials only adds about a minute or two to your work flow anyway, if you have a jar of sterile vials and a stack of plates on hand at all times like you should.
