Plate directions?

Under the the suggestion of many fine members, I was encouraged to build a SAB and to play with Agar again, amist my many failures with it. I did LC inoculation of these plates and I don't even know what I'm looking at. I need to get a magnifying glass to try and discern these. I dont really want to do transfers as I have some fresh fruit that I would rather experiment with on agar. I'm thinking of stacking them, then throwing in a jumbo ziplock to set in closet.

There´s some good mycelium, but too early to transfer. I think there´s bacteria too. How did you inoculate? Did you hover with your hands over the opened plates? Guess you wanna work on that

I thought it was way early, I'm just glad I've got some healthy myc for once. That's good to hear that, because I had no idea what I'm looking at to be totally honest. I'm so paranoid to handle them I left the lot sitting in the bottom of a 66qt clear tote. Makes good for setting a cam phone on the lid. Thinking about that too, it might be where alot of past failure came from, finger fumbling freshly inoculated plates in stead of just letting them do their thing undisturbed. Thanks for looking at them and letting me know. I wanted to get a lil more plate experience before trying fruit tissue to plate. These were lc inoculated and I would safely say some of them had the hand over the area of open plate and some just the needle, so without knowing I'm glad I got some of them right. I wish I could donate these because I really don't want to store or work with them it was just a lil experience experiment.

I can't comment on the bottom dish as the pic isn't clear enough though the top plates definitely has some slime mold in the center and around the edges. A few dots of mycelium in the center of the top dish. You will absolutely need to transfer to a clean dish if you want to continue working with it. Even if you're cloning fruit tissue you'll need to make transfers. 1 colony of mycelium on a plate without competition, is a good plate to work with.
Once that petri dish lid is off work quickly then slap that lid back on.
Working with agar is a good skill to have, agar dishes are your friend.

I saved this plate to practice with parafilm wrapping, I'm horrible at that and how you all do it like fine art is beyond me. So I'm guessing that big spot is mold? I probably need to unwrap this and pick out the jello, bleach it and practice with a empty plate.

I don't know how to tell the difference between bacteria, mold, and mycelium. I look online and it says that both mold and mycelium is white and spreads across the plate, leaving me confused? While bacteria has a more circular pattern, it can also can be white or yellow but has a creamy appearance? I'm curious about the largest formation, it's discolored in the middle and then grows out white and fibrous.

Put the 10x mag glass on it with a led flashlight. Oh yeah, nasty, in the trash with 6 lbs of bad grain. Ewww weeee! Saw yellow with black specks on it, that's not myc. Glad I got the magnifying glass.
