First LM fruit! Very exciting. This is a wild clone. Doing a lot better than any of my "tropicals" right now.

Noice. What's yer sub? Also, any truth to what I've read about non-log fruits having less meds and not tasting as good?

Just field capacity masters mix pellets in jars with a hole in the middle for grain spawn. I have only run jars so I can't say how they compare. But I can say that they are quite tasty.

Thanks, I like what you're doing with the bottles. Looks like you've been getting nice fruits. I used those for a while when Muda put out the tek, but they have since gone out the door with Thanksgiving leftovers. So I plan to use what I have for now, tons of quart jars. My plan is to fill them with dowels, then a homespun masters mix. Get a flush or two from the jars, then dig out the dowels and noc logs. See any issues?

Sounds like a plan. But I have no outdoor experience because death valley is not conducive to healthy fungus.

Thanks for these photos! I've been meaning to try muda bottles for king oysters, but boring a whole in the center for grain was a little fuzzy. Looks like you are even starting with the basically blunt handle and it's boring through ok.
Are you just slightly underfilling it so the bored substrate doesn't overflow it, or is it mostly being compressed? And is pouring grain into the hole fiddly or messy? Is it worth trying to shake at inoculation?
Sorry for the barrage of questions. Still a noob especially with bottles.

bottles are fun to try and not so difficult. just time consuming if you don't rig up a system to make a lot of bottle at once. boring holes doesn't seem to be challenging if your sub is properly moistured. being sure not to bang the jars when moving them into the pc and out is a little tricky - you don't want that hole to collapse. and nocing is kind of like spoon feeding a child - most of it goes in easily, but there's a little mess.
i don't know why LM from logs would be any different from LM grown on log dust.

Hit the nail on the head. With a screw driver handle, the hydrated masters mix easily compresses out of the way. It is lightly packed in before pressing in the handle and I use my other hand to keep much from falling out as the handle is removed. Once the lids are on, it holds in place pretty well if you don't bang it around too much. Once sterilized and cooled, I just shake the colonized grain jars well before inoculating by pouring from grain jar to masters mix jars. Sometimes a bit misses or a chunk needs to be pressed in using the side of a flame sterilized scalpel, but no points lost for sloppy work. It is a hell of a lot easier in front of a ffu than in a sab, but I have done it both ways successfully.
No shaking on this method, or at least I never have.

Anyone seen their Black Pearl Kings grow like this?

I'm used to seeing em more like this:
Which isn't terrible but the chunkiness of the first pic is just killlller . Only real difference was I let the block in the top pic incubate a week longer (4 weeks vs 3 weeks). Maybe it coulda been in a higher CO2 part of the fruiting room but when I have high CO2 my Black Kings tend to just get skinny and not thick.
Any thoughts? Next step is gonna be pruning young pins and see if that helps push phatties.
Cheers

Looks like the kings in the first pic had more fresh air. They look good. One of my favorites for sure

Amazing that it still had the energy to push out so many pins while that monster cluster was growing. Does that happen often?

Haha yeah dont get me wrong, a huge shroom is awesome and kinda funny but less than ideal when its time to take mushrooms to the coop or for csa shares.
i think what happened was (for unknown reasons) a very small pinset developed and then grew normally. because of the small pinset all the energy went into about 6 caps resulting in these monsters. So like king cultivators have been doing for decades culling the pinset is proven to work with this strain of blue oyster as well.
