Hello all! Possibly a lackluster question but I have tried to search this myself and I'm not comfortable with the results I found so please help me, if you can, in determining what I have here. Is it Trichoderma or not? Do I have to dispose of it regardless? If not, do I treat this? If so, with H2O2 and/or Salt? Thank you, a lot. Naturally, I guess the first step is knowing what it is but I am stuck. Thank you.

It is not trich (yet), but that substrate is not happy. Looks like the mycelium matted.

Maybe I am blind but I fail to see Trichoderma in your photos. Although if you have it then there is no way to actually treat it (without also killing the good stuff). Even with the right kind of fungicides (for example carbendazim, benomyl) you would only slow it down, that in case you want to separate the mycelium on a petri dish.

Most likely bruising from a dried out and matted surface. What's your setup? I hope you're not using a heat pad.

Yes the bruising is further evidence of dry conditions.

Your sub looks extremely matted. I believe the bruising is as others have stated, it is most likely dry AF all you can do is let it ride and hope for it to pin. Your sub is not happy.

Thank you all for your thoughts on my mold and substrate I definitely appreciate the wise replies. Let me give you some back ground. On 12/27/23 I inoculated 2, 1 lb. grain bags with 5cc each of liquid spores. On 1/8 I broke up the two spawn bags because they were 30% colonized. On 1/13 I added these because they were fully colonized to a 5 lb. bag of substrate (I probably should have used more for a 9"x17" passive monotub) On 1/17 The monotub seemed fully colonized and I introduced 7 hours of light daily and fanned it twice a day. No misting. That room is about 80 F, no heating pad. On 2/1 I only had side pins. I used a cheap moisture gauge and discovered it had higher moisture on the edges. I thought "this needs water". Probably not so smart for me to have added boiled and cooled water but that's what I did. And it caused this matted look. On 2/6 (today) I noticed the green mold and panicked. I also used a digital moisture reader that I had used for firewood to check the moisture level for the soil and it read 50%. However, that is as high as it goes. Thank you all!

80° is hot. Do not fan anymore unless absolutely necessary as a last resort. The hydrometers are inaccurate for this hobby, don’t use it. Proper sub preparation and your eyes are all you need. That thing is super matted. You might get lucky as it is or you can try flipping the brick over and go from there.

If you added boiling water to your substrate , them most likely you cooked your mycelium to death, and now the bacteria and mold are having a huge picnic in your sub. Sorry for your loss.

He said boiled then cooled water so I don't think that's what happened but it definitely doesn't look great.

The visibly uncolonized grains are concerning to me.

If you are referring to the bare spots on the 2nd photo, I used tweezers to pull off some green mold that was there. During my removal of it I thought of posting here on Shroomery to find out if it was Trichoderma. Thank you!
