monotub day 13 after spawning to bulk
    #28648521 - 02/06/24 06:51 AM (3 months, 9 days ago)

Coir only tub (left) at day 13 after spawning from rye berries.
Manure mixture tub on the right at day 7 from spawning.
These are my first tubs. For the coir only I used a 2:1 ratio and for the manure only a 3:1.
How do they look? Are they moist enough?

Hard to say. I’ve never done manure. Just coco coir. Mine usually looks like the one on the left after four or five days tops. When I do coco coir, I weigh the dried brick first. They’re usually about 600 grams. Take that number and multiply by 4.6. That’s how many milliliters of water you need to boil. I put the coir in a bucket, and boil 2760 ml of water. Once it’s at a rolling boil, I pour it right into the bucket, put the lid on with just a portion of it loose, shake it up a bit and wrap it in a towel. Let it sit overnight. The coir comes out perfect every time. I grab a handful of coke the next day and squeeze with my hand. If I can manage to get a few drops out, it’s perfect. Occasionally, I’ll add 1/4 cup of water and stir it all up if I think it’s a bit on the dry side. I take about 90% of it and dump it into the tub. Mix it up real nice and good with my spawn. Pat it down and make it nice and smooth. Don’t compress too hard. Just nice and snug. I pour the rest of the coir in and smooth and pat that down too. I try to have about a 1/4” thick layer on top. In a few days, it’s all white like yours. At this point, let it ride.
