Never heard of variegated plants only lacking chlorophyll in the winter. I thought it was like one of those variegated moon cactus grafts, where the only reason its doing so well and probably alive at all is the fact that it’s grafted to plant that can do photosynthesis for it, because of a lack of chlorophyll since germinating.
This specimen isn't variegated even though it looks very red and almost like a moon cactus like you said. It just looks this way during the cold season.
Here is another photo of the same specimen half a year or so ago during the summer or shortly before summer. You can see this is before most of the pups grew in and it's really similar in coloration to other lophs.

I think this is correct, but I'm also not sure to be honest. I think the flowers look similar enough but might be a deeper magenta with jourdanania than with willii.

That’s wild, so it’s just like a stress response it puts on every year when it gets cold. I had a couple loph grafts that turned dark purple for a bit in the winter so that makes sense.

Same batch of seeds sown about a year ago, the graft was done at about three months old. The seedlings have been pretty hard-grown, but the difference that the graft makes absolutely blows my mind. I swear you could see it swelling day over day during the peak of summer.

 Penis cactus
This has splits from over watering, some have filled in with rust looking stuff. Should I ignore it or treat like rust? It's been doing this for a while, maybe 8 months or longer.
Here's an old close up of the rootstock. It had some kind of insect damage like grasshoppers. I grafted on when the insect damage was already healed, but it has gotten something weird under the wax. It's brown bumps. Can it still be used or should I degraft and get rid of the rootstock? It was a zelly x collosus seedling

Started some seedlings last April & took the humidity done off way too soon. Growth has been slow but it's been worth it.

Thanks ferrel, I'll leave them alone and see what happens. They've been cruising along just fine without me messing with them

Those look really good for less than a year. Think I'll buy some more seeds too
