Anyone else hack all their consoles? * 1
    #28425464 - 08/08/23 09:01 AM (9 months, 5 days ago)

I hacked my nintendo switch, wii, and PS3. Of course my x86_64 is a giant computer that can emulate windows on top of native gentoo linux. So I can run all the 3ds/2ds/gba emulators with ease. I sold most of my old consoles that just served to be backwards compatible with older titles. I guess they had novelty but I find my personal computer to be the swiss army knife I always wanted in my life. I think most people prefer the original experience as the designers intended, but I believe emulation has come a long way. Our PC's are so much more powerful than those consoles of 10+ years ago.

Do you mean you emulate them all from PC? Have you done new games, or is it just the old console games?

You can emulate the nintendo switch, ps3 too. I hacked my ps3 and switch because it's easier to play them there directly on the console. Compiling graphics shaders just to play game backups on my pc is slow and time consuming

I would love to do this with a switch. By hacking, you can download and play any game requiring that level of power and lower correct?

I bought one of the small handhelds that does GBA and earlier. It's great.

Absolutely if you have a first gen switch there's a backdoor you can exploit in the nvidia APU's recovery mode. Just Google how to hack your switch you can use emulators and play snes games, nes, not sure about ds though. You can also save offline backups and game dumps of cartridges.

fusee-gelee
The primary exploit is fusee-gelee (sometimes also referred to as ShofEL2 or CVE-2018-6242, these are all the same exploit) which takes advantage of an oversight in the Nintendo Switch built-in recovery mode (referred to as RCM). fusee-gelee is a tethered, non-persistent exploit, meaning you require a secondary device (such as a PC or Android phone) to enable CFW on every reboot. This is unlike the untethered coldboot exploits available on other systems such as Boot9strap for 3DS and Henkaku Enso for Vita.

The fusee-gelee exploit allows for a full system takeover; the exploit runs before even the normal bootloader code, meaning anything about the normal Switch operating system (named Horizon, or HOS) can be changed. The exploit also allows dumping of the bootloader and any console unique information.

All I do to initiate the exploit is start up the switch with my phone plugged in to the usb c. There is an app that communicates and launches the custom firmware during recovery mode. The process doesn't require the magical RCM clip after you do it once. So it's pretty convenient!

I remember getting a Playstation1 for Christmas when I was like 11, but now I'm 33 and have a computer that I built and use that to play games, even got a game controller called the K-pad Thorium, I'm not even concerned with consoles being released.

But from what I understand, if you're using a console and you join a multiplayer game, you only go in sessions with people using the same console... or something like that... but there's no way in hell I could ever rely on a game controller to be able to aim accurately in open-word/FPS games... need the mouse.

I'm a gamer but unfortunately don't play a very wide variety of games. Like 10 or 15 years ago, I used to play Wolfenstein ET (online only) and Quake Champions but then I just lost all ambition to game like 6 years ago when I moved to Ireland, even though I had a computer. But then like a year and a half ago, it occurred to me that I had never actually bought GrandTheftAuto 5 because was dealing with shitty life issues, so finally got GTA5 for $20, it was like a premium package on Steam that came with $1million in shard card money. I had only played it for like 20 minutes in story mode at a friend's house, but nothing else other than that. So I'm 8 or 9 years late to the GTA5 party, but there is no shortage of "modders" on GTA5, and according to a recent youtube video ,cheating/modding is a "multi-million dollar industry" so therefore it is some people's opinion that they'll never win the war against modders, and I might have grown up using a computer, built my first computer by myself, figured out how to install Linux by myself (when I was like 18) but have been unsuccessful twice in utilizing mods (in single player) so obviously this is one of those things where you have to be shown/told/taught how to do it, as it is not so straight-forward due to the fact that it's cheating and a million(s) dollar industry and I'm not even sure where to look to consider purchasing a mod menu for GTA... (I guess)

so I'm just gonna wait for GTA6. Thought about getting Red Dead Online but I was watching gameplay of it and it just seems a little too rural for me... I don't like deserts and rural areas where there's just nothing and nobody, makes me feel kinda alone/depressed, and don't understand people who like not having neighbors for miles... don't they know that rural areas are where serial killers are? After living in Dublin where it's usually always pretty crowded/busy, I would refuse to live anywhere rural. (I guess)

To each their own on that one. At least in the US, more violent crimes happen in the city. The only problem with rural areas is the inability to have a social life. There's nothing better for my psyche than disconnecting in a massive wilderness zone for days without cell service with a few friends. It's really grounding, and you should try it if you get a chance.

Thanks. I'm going to look into the Switch. I'll definitely do it if they find a way to play actual switch games though. I already have GBA and lower emulator for like $50. It's really nice for traveling.

I've also been reading up on this as I recently got a switch for my son, games are ridiculously overpriced.

I found that same write-up on fusee-gelee, so you rate it's the way to go huey?

Make sure your switch is compatible using the guide as reference.
Some switches are patched. It's worth it since games are 70$ now

i saw a video with an switch cartridge for sd cards. so you can put copies on the sd card and play on the switch. should released soon.
For older stuff i use my old psp that ive hacked long time ago. It was lot of fun because you needed to open the battery and cut something to install a custom firmware on the psp

Don't you run the risk of online perma bans?

Apparently you do still run the risk of bans but they have a file dumper that makes exact copies of games.

Yeh that's pretty much my plan, I don't bother with the online functionality but from what I've been told there is still a call back to Nintendo regardless what you're playing which can cause a ban but that's also being worked on to ensure the recommended files are present.
