I source material in bulk. Not pallets but large quantities at a time. Lol
Ok maybe $2.

Oh... That cost lol.
Depends on the grain I guess.

How does my agar look? It's been colonizing for little over a month now and I'm wondering if it's ready to inoculate liquid culture.

6 looks suspect from the pictures to me.
The growth on 4 and 5 is more uniform but 4 is also somewhat suspicious.
I'd probably transfer 4 to try for more uniform growth, send 5, and toss 6. But from the pictures it's hard for me to say with certainty.

Cost of production? 25c for a Petri dish, about $1.50 in coir, and maybe $1 in grain. And really you could say the 25c for the dish is nothing because 1 plate can make functionally infinite tubs.
So about $2.50 with what I’d consider higher end grain costs. Might even be closer to $2, but I like to give liberal cost estimates.

Don't forget the 15.6kwhrs required to run a (my) dehydrator (650w) for 24hrs. At 10¢/kilowatt hour, that's another $1.56, yes there maybe more than an oz in the dehydrator, but that 1oz still required it.

So wiggle room $4-5 average then I suppose. If you factor in lights and the stove it’s higher but you know. Less than the street cost of a single gram of bendy ass dealer shrooms in Austin

See that's how you lose money. Do the hooking yourself and you're looking at a net profit.

Mid to low 60s. If it dips into the high to mid 50s at night but heats up again to mid 60s during the day you'll probably be alright as long as your lighting and surface conditions are maintained.
Edit: also genetics will play a roll here. If you have an agressive fruiter that pins like fuuuucking bomb on agar you will get better results.

I want to make some liquid inoculant, by making a slurry out of a petri dish. Would an 18g needle do the job adequately, or should I try and find a 16g one?

I'm sure someone who's used that size will chime in but the pictures of them make them look adequately fat. The needle diameter is .98 mm which is pretty wide. 16g is 1.4mm so you are missing out on about 1/3 the available bandwidth of the pipe.
Personally I'd give it a try if it's all you can get.

QQ: Is the "Dry Malt Extract (“DME”) that can be used as an alternative for liquid malt extract" that you can buy at a brewery supplies outlet good enough for using for our agar and LCs? Fraction of the price of LME that I can buy at my local mushroom shop.

DME is what you want. People here often say LME meaning Light Malt Extract. Your use of LME to denote liquid malt extract is more correctly how the abbreviation is used in brewing circles. Just get the lightest, or lowest Lovibond dry malt extract you can find.

Okay, I tried searching before asking, but no luck so far. How low must lovibond be to be useful for us? Thanks in advance

Is it possible for BRF cakes to dry out because of environmental factors like humidity , heat ,tub in tub incubators etc
Or is a BRF cake a protected ecosystem, once its been given its moisture content in its creation its set ?
I ask as I am in cold conditions 60F and below so am using a tub in tub aqua heater set up but worried about drying out the cakes
