Hi I'm experimenting with winter growing but it's not really working out for me.
I'm dealing with temps around 13 to 11 C close to 58F maybe.
I built an aquarium heater Tub in Tub incubator for my BRF jars , worked a treat , got contents to 22C but it did not work for fruiting a shoebox, way too much moisture inside as difference between heat out and in too great.
Tried some heat mats , all they did was dry out the sub.
Am wondering if I ditched all the heating experimenting could I actually grow in such low temps as 13 C14 C

They benefit from slightly colder temps makes harder stems and thicker caps...
I keep my jars 70-78F and when time comes to go into fruiting, usually 65-75F

I am having to deal with cold temps for the first time. Just moved into an underground house I built a few months ago. I have a couple forms of heat, but I don't like to piss away money on propane and electric heat is a poor use of electricity when using solar. Next winter I will have built a wood fired masonry heater, known as a rocket mass heater which will fix the problem, but currently the house is averaging about 55f/13c. This morning it was 48f. Everything is moving more slowly than normal, but surprisingly not that slow. I am currently working with agar, pftek cakes and pf pucks. Have not made it to grains or bulk yet at these temps, but I will find out soon and report accordingly.

Id say high 50F (15C) is probably the lowest you wanna go in fruit temps.
Have you tried simply insulating your FC with blankets or insulating foam? Mycelium does produce a small amount of heat on its own....

Im trying something experimental today. Not sure how much it will help but I think its worth a try.
Ive been warming up a cotton t-shirt in front of an electric space heater and wrapping my glass PF containers with it. Just did my second process just right now.
Im hoping the extra heat and insulation will help stimulate growth in this cold-ass times.

If you have jars or bags with warm water you can put those in a box with dividers and put your jars in center . the water can be changed out to keep the temps up slightly you want to wrap the box and close it with a blanket or something. Makes a nice makeshift incubation box when powers out.

Secondly: They will all run in the 40s. I spent the first few years on this property living with very low indoor temps in the winter in the 5th wheel then the house. Bru-tal. Everything ran fine. Slow, but fine.

Just checking in. My first 4oz pftek cake is done at 47 days @55โฐf, including a week of consolidation. Stragglers are coming along.
Dunk/tap water is 47โฐf
Will update when/if I get pins.

2 of my 4oz pftek cube jars have been birthed, noc'd 12-5, no pins. 1 cake still in jar, consolidating has a pin. So, 2 months. Average temp 55โฐf.
Also, takes a month to fill a 100mm agar plate. Starting something new every few days to keep from losing it.
Lion's Mane and shittake are flying, comparatively.
