Is this normal or contamination?
    #28643663 - 02/02/24 07:29 AM (3 months, 13 days ago)

Hi guys,
I know you probably get this question a lot,but I know you're the ones to ask!

This is only my second grow and my first time with a gran to substrate grow.
I'm on day 5 of starting fruiting conditions and this white fluff has appeared on day 3 and seems to be spreading.

I'm hoping it's just mycelium not contamination

What do you think?

Also what's you're opinion on the overall state of the cake? I'm just under 22oC

However when I misted it the other day due to humidity being as low as 70% I over done it and it's not dropping under 99.9% now however this is all according to the hydrometer I'm not sure if it's 100% accurate.
I noticed that where the hydrometer had tilted over this giving some shade pins there have developed much quicker than anywhere else. Could this mean too much light?
I have them under a windowsill however I have been using led lights for 12 hours but as of yesterday stopped. Just running a fan nearby now for Fae.

Any advice really appreciated.
As it is one grain jar went bad so hoping to salvage something from this kit!

Update. So my fruiting chamber/incubator came today. Unfortunately they didn't send my spores or perlite with it so dropped them a email.
But hopefully you can see the cake better now. Ok ve noticed the mushrooms are white. Again I don't know what strain they are but I've read this can be due to not enough light so I've restarted the L.E.D.'s

I have noticed the grey fuzz I hope that's normal.

What do you think? Any improvements I could make?
Thanks!

Don’t rely on the hydrometer. They are notoriously inaccurate for this hobby. Window light should be sufficient but I would avoid direct light as it can dry things out from the excess heat. My tubs are always under natural light but I have the blinds most of the way closed.  Doing both led and natural might be too much but don’t hold me to that because i don’t know for sure. Hopefully someone else can help you with a direct answer on that.

Everything else looks normal from the pics. I don’t see any bad stuff growing.

The contamination looks to be some sort of plastic debris - a chunk of wire with a shiny thing on it too. I'd remove them ASAP.

Ya that looks fine. Like mentioned I wouldn't even use the hydrometer and instead I'd focus on the proper Surface Conditions if it's getting natural light you probably don't need the LED's but they also won't hurt as they hardly put out any heat unless you have like a crazy LED grow light or something. Could just be an albino strain as they are really popular right now.

Kind of hard to tell exactly what you have going on there but I see a lot of holes and a little perlite. You would be better served by putting your cake in a water tub, it will develop and keep proper surface conditions much better than what you have it in now.
