Agar to grain questions

Hello fellow mushroom folks, I have now reached a point where I have successfully isolated some mycelium cultures and I have transferred it to some sterile grain that has been prepared via the guides on this site. My first question is how long will it take to colonise a 1 litre jar of sterilised grain with one 90mm dish of mycelium cut up into pieces and added to the jar? My other question is how do you get the agar to the bottom of the jar so it colonises it quicker and more evenly? Also, when it is fully colonised do you just pull it all out with your fingers with gloves on or do break it up with something else to get it out making sure you don't contaminate it at the same time? The reason I ask this is because my Kilner jars have a narrow neck compared to the body of the jars so when turned upside down they won’t just pop out sadly. Any advice or tips would be appreciated as usual 👌🍄

2-4 weeks is common
I like to put the grain at a slant before I add the wedge, then make it flat again. This puts the wedge in the middle of the grain to do the most good. Shake at about 20-30%, let finish then spawn with a big spoon.

Couple weeks maybe. Varies depending on several factors. Room temp, moisture content of grain, what type of gain used, etc.
Shake the jar - up, down, all around until the agar moves where you want it. Also, using a whole plate is probably too much. I don't like having that much agar in my jars. I'd use maybe 1/4 to 1/3. Make sure no separate grains get stuck under the lid or on any vent holes/ports. Check carefully after shaking. You will need to shake the jar once when it is about half colonized - at least that is what I do. That way you are sure the middle is fully colonized. Leave some headspace in the jar for shaking - never fill completely.
Gloved fingers for poking at the grain - some are easier than others. Try knocking the jar on something to get the cake broken up a bit. Then break up the grain with your hands before mixing with your sub. You want lots of little pieces of the same size.

Will do, thanks.

I have left some headspace in the jars so I should be ok there. Thanks for the other tips.
