Lighting during colonization
    #28643078 - 02/01/24 02:50 PM (11 months, 9 days ago)

Hey all. So far my first 10 jars have growth 7/10. But it’s been  2 weeks and the growth seems “slow”. I’m trying to be patient.

I have been keeping the jars in the dark just because that’s where I have space. A dark cabinet. I DO have a 6500k  LED for fruiting but I haven’t been cycling during colonization.

So.…what is the current consensus on lighting during the colonization phase. I am using RR’s video but it’s old tek (It’s good. It’s wonderful. But they don’t address lighting specifically) and I know some things change over the years.

So the question is should I start a 12/12 of indirect

The consensus is that light is good in all phases of cult. Nothing to lose buy turning it on.

Like he said above lighting is beneficial in all stages of growth so your only slowing them down by keeping in the dark.

Also is it a really small cabinet? They could need some fresh air as well just a thought.

It is roughly 15 cu ft. I put 1.5” holes in the bottom to allow air in (think perf steel).  I was considering putting in a vent on top of cabinet. The convection should provide a natural air flow.

I have begun the 12/12 cycle now. We shall see. I am not a patient man. This hobby is good practice.

5k to 7k light temp at 12/12 . It can be just 1 bulb for like 100 tubs in a room

Just an update.  10 days after adding a 12/12 light cycle colonization seems to have increased compared to the 14 days prior.

Overall I was able to get growth in 7/10 jars.  Inoculation day was almost 4 weeks and none of the jars have reached full colonization yet.  Ambient temp 80˚F on a thermostat. 12/12 added late.  Fingers crossed.

Thanks to everyone for the help so far.

I'm a little nervous I'll be away during some of the Fruiting window.

How long could I guess for birthing to harvest?  Then a hopeful 2nd flush turnaround would be about the same right?

Cruising along.  Fingers Crossed.  Learning Patience.
