If a vehicle of any kind came from a sidewalk and hit my car in any situation, they would definitely be paying for the damage.š¤£

No. Sheās the one who came up and got hit. I was incredibly visible. Sheās lucky I didnāt key that truck I was so goddamn mad. I also had to go to work. Had a big bruise on my chest for two weeks cause I had something in my chest pocket. Why do people need to cover the entire sidewalk and be lingering there for 10 minutes to take a turn? Canāt you do that from in the parking lot too?

If you had been in the road where you belonged she would have seen you and it wouldn't have been an issue

I donāt think you get it. The exact exact same thing wouldāve happened except I wouldāve been in the street and then gotten hit with a car when I hit the truck. She covered everything and she was not visible before the second she covered everything. I had no time to react. I wouldāve hit her, no matter what. Donāt victim blame. I was the person who was smashed against the side of a truck that came out of nowhere. She was only looking to her left. She didnāt look at the right side at all, which is where I was coming from.
I have been yelled at by strangers because I was riding on an empty sidewalk. Iām not going to put myself at risk for no one. I arrived incredibly carefully on my scooter, because I knew I was at incredible risk, because the only thing protecting me was a helmet on my head.
Iām not going to drive in the street on an incredibly vulnerable vehicle for no oneās benefit, except for people that might be on the sidewalk. I already said if there were people on the sidewalk, I had no problems, slowing completely to a stop and then walking past them. I was incredibly courteous.

That's weird because you made it sound like you smashed your scooter into the side of a stationary truck waiting to make a turn in a driveway where it's allowed to be while you were riding on a sidewalk at full speed where you aren't supposed to be. I don't know where you live but in most jurisdictions scooters are supposed to ride in the road in the direction of traffic, not on the sidewalk, against the flow of traffic. Just like a bicycle. Seems to me that if you had been following the rules you would have been on the entire other side of the road and never encountered the truck at all.

Itās a hill leading down to a parking lot with like a subway and a KeyBank and crap. Thereās this wall to the left side because Iām going down a pretty steep hill, so they have kind of like elevations that theyāve set. So thereās a wall to the far left of this parking lot, thereās a line of trees down the sidewalk leading down to that parking lot. She was against that wall, decided to whip up, covering the sidewalk completely only looking to her left, while I was coming down that sidewalk from above her.
She did not need to cover the entire sidewalk to be able to see that street. Then I slam into her when she showed up 5 feet away from me when I was already going down this hill. There is easily 10 feet of space that she couldāve just waited to take her left turn. No she needed to cover everything and be just a little bit in the street.

If it makes you feel any better I got hit by a van on my bike doing the same dumb shit when I was like, 10. Bottom line: you were riding on the sidewalk, strike 1. Going way too fast, strike 2. Riding against the flow of traffic, strike three, you're out.
Think of it as a learning experience and count yourself as lucky for not being more seriously injured.

She was getting ready to take a turn. Why didnāt she look to her right at all? she was a bad driver. I didnāt do anything wrong. Itās not like we live in San Francisco here. I donāt have beautiful bike lines that I can use. People use bikes and scooters around here quite often. Itās not something that should be completely foreign to drivers. They should know better.
I think some of it has to do with the piece of shit city I live in. Terrible public transportation and just some of the worst drivers Iāve seen since California.

GenesisCorrupted said: Dude, exactly. Hell, I had a miniature version of the same thing happened. Iām on a sidewalk. Iām waiting for the crosswalk light to turn on. It turns on I stirred up my electric scooter and start going across the intersection. Someone takes a left out of the grocery store the light turned red. Clacked me. I waited for the light! That wasnāt even the first time I got hit riding on it.
Iām sliding down this hill going about 17 miles an hour. Thereās this parking lot ahead of me. So this person comes up doesnāt even bother looking left or right completely covers the sidewalk out of the blue. I slammed straight into the side of that truck because I was already there going 17 miles an hour maybe 10 feet away from that person when she did that.
You can be as safe as possible. Doesnāt mean other people are going to be.
Wouldn't have happened if you were on a skateboard

Well hopefully you learned that lesson. Whether it makes sense to you or not, you were in the wrong legally (US perspective) and lucky she didnāt pursue it for damages. Glad you didnāt get hurt bad.š

Sidewalks are for pedestrian traffic. Ped means foot. Do the math and take the L. If you were riding your scooter properly you would have had no problems. Instead of bitching about your bad choices and blaming everyone else, learn your lesson so you don't get hurt or killed by a vehicle that outweighs you by 100x or more

This canāt go fast enough to be considered a street legal vehicle. There are not bike lanes in my city. I do not have an alternative except to ride it on the sidewalk. I would get a ticket if I tried to drive it on the street. People would be pissed trying to get past me.
The vehicle exists. Which means people are able to use it. So I would not get ticketed for using it on a sidewalk if there are not bike lanes.
Multiple people use electric scooters, and bikes on sidewalks all the time around here. Itās expected.

UO Nobody should be using any electric scooters on the street. They belong on the sidewalk or bike lane. They just need to be willing to get off the scooter and walk next to people.

Where I live in Texas, itās legal to ride a scooter on the sidewalk or street. But, you hit a truck. They didnāt hit you. In TX youād be screwed from a legal perspective. I canāt speak to where you are. Either way, you got hurt so hopefully you cut it out. If Iām turning right, I donāt expect to see traffic coming from that direction. Should I look right? Absolutely. Will I? Maybe not and itās your life on the line.

I feel the same about cyclists. Or cyclists should have to pay registration to ride on the streets so at least thereās state revenue coming in for being a dick and inconveniencing every other driver.š¤£

Well, after, I tried to be a good pedestrian and wait at a crosswalk, and then the light turned white, and I was murdered⦠That made me quit. Three times getting injured on a scooter when I didnāt do anything wrong and I was being as safe as possible. Itās a death trap riding on those. No one gives cares about anyone who isnāt in a truck or car.
