What are these ? 1

Ordered form a vendor PE prints. what arrived were labelled Melmac, which upon enquiry were described as aka, “Homestead PE, an isolated strain of PE “. Expecting the difficulty and slowness of PE growing, spore to agar produced fast colonising, and a nice plin which was transferred once, put to a pint jar, also fast colonising. 3:1 Coir, top cased, ten days later this shoebox produced 116 wet g. Anyone with experience of Melmac, would you please inform about this strain ? Is it like PE in strength, and any relevant comment about it. Thanks for any advice !

Looks like decent cubes to me. Possibly melmac/pe; yours are a lot bigger than most cube strains. Don't get too hyped up on a strain's name, and don't expect to see perfect genetics everytime when going from mss, even after cleaning up on agar. There are a lot of genetics/phenotypes at play here, all that matters is you've got some nice mush. Keep up the good work.

The nipples are quite pronounced on this strain

So I did some research, I think these are either B+ or maybe Cambodians. Really cool fruits, nice job!

My B+ look nothing like those, they are much thicker, generally shorter, and they don't have the point on the cap 🤔 Could this be genetics, or maybe a difference in environmental conditions?

Problem is theres lot of variety of all of the strains not too mention lots of variety within one spore syringe or spore print. Its pretty much a "brand" thing as different companies produce their own strains and varieties sometimes with the same name as the OG name.
Definitely leaning towards Cambodian, maybe Costa Rican as well.

I found this old "Columbian KING" grow log that looks like a pretty damn close match: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/7148990#7148990

How do you guys suppose one would be able to diagnose a "strain"? I thought the term strain had become a meme at this point.
But i can chip in and tell you that melmac and pe variants tend to look in a certain way.
"Bulkier and chunkier, unique characteristic look." In regards to potency, some spore swabs from "Stabilized variants of strong cultures" tend to be strong
However be aware of this scenario. If one were to grow out, say a multi spore culture. There is a chance to get genetics that might look like a pe variant, as such it becomes very hard to tell a supposed PE from another lineage showing the same phenotype. This is the reason i mentioned strains being a meme/obsolete.
This could all change if the forums suddenly started diagnosing variants by DNA.

Thanks for your attention to my question LC ! There is no clear concensus on what these are, but the mislabelling seems a possibility. So treat with caution then 😊

I found a B+ grow with the nipple feature and tall fruits. About half-way down the OP: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/21390984#21390984

Thank you again LC 😊 I will look at them again once second flush appears, though it looks stalled now. I will just leave it alone, see what happens if anything. Is Colombian one of the more potent ?

Colombians are said to be more potent yes. Any strain from Mexico, Central or South America is a good catch in my opinion!
I was looking at spores online and came across "StarGazer". Id say its a real close match from the pics I have seen.

Thank you LC ! Have tried to grow Stargazer, always very energetic in the agar, never succeeded to colonise grain, but that is my error with oat prep. Now have a Presto, that will no doubt help 😁. Be well !
