It's important to understand that the economic turmoil is deliberate. Deliberate on the part of a handful of elites who don't like humanity and wish to rule over it.

They pretty much want you on your knees, unable to afford food or rent or bills in general. Then when it gets bad enough they will swoop in with a "solution" to the problem they've created, which of course just so happens to conveniently grant either them or the government in general more power over you in the process.

And to achieve this they will make things much, much worse than they are now, if they can. They will escalate to the point that society is breaking down.

More wars, another "pandemic", all these things are options on the table for them.

I'll get slammed for this post probably but I don't care. It's the truth. And the truth must be faced, rather than ignored just because someone doesn't like the implications.

Inflation on this level does not just "happen", it took a "pandemic" involving a virus created in some DoD laboratory, massive government spending, and a massive war in Ukraine to make it happen. Of course, there is always passive inflation, but it is not supposed to happen at such a massively accelerated pace.

All of these things were 100% avoidable. There are people behind all of these decisions. They knew what the consequences would be and decided these consequences were useful for them. Therefore, it was deliberate.

Rapid inflation is a predictable outcome of lowering interest rates to 0% while production is virtually non-existent, I agree. In our system, money is created through credit, and when credit is cheap you create a lot of it. Money is also created through the treasury, and there was a lot of that too (increased the money supply by ~27% through the covid relief bill alone), cheap credit aside.

I agree, inflation on this level does not just happen. It's calculated and shifts wealth to bigger wallets through devaluation. Likewise, printing money is also a discreet way to generate revenue for the government without raising taxes. I think the current administration is complicit in stretching this thing out. However, I tend to get the impression that you think this is a one sided affair, and I think your dude is also complicit in helping on getting those historically low interest rates that led to where we're at today, and he's still pushing.

I personally agree that closing the economy is a big contributing factor to the inflation we're having now, due to the vast amount of free money not going into production within for too long a period. No one likes to want high interest rates or slowing down the economy, but its the only way to reign in inflation and neither party wants to take that seriously if they're the one holding the bag.

My land value has skyrocketed, but I couldn't afford to move without taking a massive hit or downgrading as taxes would crush me.

It's all very odd.

Sure, but why would I want to do that? Interest rates are crazy now.

Lol... we've had 2 cyclones here in the last month. I've seriously considered installing proper shutters. There's another tropical low forming out there in the Coral Sea as well. Makes for interesting times.

I see.

Sounds like it's actually bad for you, you won't enjoy the appreciation since its on paper only but I am pretty sure your property tax will go up.

I'm pretty young and basically started my "adult" life during covid and I'm fine. Currently studying and when I'm done I'll have like 25k in student debts, but during my three years of studying I've saved up around 10k on a monthly income of ~$1250. When I'm done my goal will be to save around that much each month, even more if I'll go to work in Norway or graveyard shifts. So can't really say that I'm struggling but haven't been around long enough to really feel the inflation. My job will also be recession proof and when I get a larger income I will start to do some prepping.

I've noticed the increase in expenses for sure.  My family lives some minor level of extravagance, zero debt, paid home, a fair amount of savings, travelling a few times each year, ordering DoorDash (or comparable delivery service) from restaurants on average once or thrice a week; we cook a lot too but we just generally like some spendy stuff regardless... and it has become spendier!  To be sure we also work our own garden and make efforts to manage our finances with a high level of discipline.

I've been lucky to be fairly insulated from the difficult decisions that face a lot of folks, as I've always aimed to live within my means (this also means that I have some practice with actively/quickly curtailing my expenditures whenever the front-month budget isn't lining up), I have always saved and invested money at every opportunity, bought my own house at the first opportunity, and generate income through multiple streams and ultimately continue to ensure I have a sustainable stack for the remainder of my life care.

But I know that I'm in a privileged class, and I know that a lot of what is going on with respect to these inflationary forces is in large part benefitting me due to the value of the hard (and digital) assets I have acquired.  So I just hope that spirit_shadow ain't gonna come gunnin' for me anytime soon!

Also been seeing, for the first time in the entirety of my living in this upper class suburb of Los Angeles, a couple of resident homeless folk over the course of the past 4 years.  Started with one dude, a really kind gentleman actually, even as the years of street living definitely appear to be taking their toll.  Now we have an elder woman also camping out at one of the prominent intersections in town.  She keeps her place tidy, but she's there every morning when I'm on my way back from dropping my kid off at school.  And if she's not there, she parks her wheeled wagon and cart of belongings in her stead (speaks to the general safety of our town).  I don't really mind it, but it is a change.  I do at times wonder if this change will result in the restrooms at our public places of business implementing code-locked doors and such, which we have heretofore never had to deal with.

Patrick made a very relevant post above with regard to monetary policy, liquidity expansion and our government's inherent desire to keep rates low and effectively debase the currency in order to service it's own debt more effectively.  Definitely a bit of a doozy we're in here.  But that makes sense given how quickly our species has colonized so much of the planet with such rapid exploitation of its natural resources.  World governments have financed growth through fractionalized reserves and plentiful debt, and those debts find a way of coming due at some point, one way or another.

Just catching up here. And agreed with much of the above posts. I am admittedly no macro-economics guru, but it seems pretty clear that the current global state was sooner or later to come and an unavoidable outcome of prolonged loose monetary policies. I really avoid being the doomsday seer when thinking about stuff like this, and dont think the end is near that well get it figured out... but am also planning on hedging that bet a bit

Restructured our shit a bit and am figuring out a way to max contribute to my Roth this year as well, even though the money wont be there until later this year. At minimum will contribute something.

You used to be able to get a combo at a fast food place, large, for $5. Now, I end up spending as much at a fast food place as I do at a restaurant a lot of times.

Yeah, I haven't eaten fast food in a very long time. I just go to my favorite local Chinese place and get all the food I want for the same price.

Its important to have a back-up plan when money goes South. Sometimes multiple back-up plans are needed :sadyes:

Noonman, so true. The only real difference is you dont have to tip fast food workers, so you potential save in that way (unless you never tip at sit-downs).

Im doing my taxes early this year, likely within a couple days. I usually procrastinate but its been a serious year for me with money. Lots of hard lessons learned. Lots of personal changes made.

Life for me is very different from life in holland, i'm on 75% of the social minimum income due to disability.

All this prepping for worse times makes more sense now, yes?

I totally agree with that sir, and personally I feel that our corrupt politicians are to blame.  They are supposed to be our servants but in reality they collude with their corporate cronies to extract maximum amount of money from us.

People were predicting this back in 2020 but you lunatics couldn't bring yourselves to pull the governments saggy dried up tit out of your mouth and think and act for yourselves.
