I brought this fella home yesterday, it looks like it might need a bit of TLC though. Can anyone tell me if this is scale? I scraped some of the black spots off with a knife and they pop off like little shells, but there was nothing inside them.

Just looks like mild scarring to me. It's harmless. Nice plant!

Agreed, no need to remove them with a knife or anything like that, over time they will become less significant as the cactus increases in size. I also see these spots occasionally and they tend to be near newer, more delicate growth so it's probably scarred tissue from one reason or another. Definitely not scale.

You are correct. Most cacti thrive on neglect

Hey there,
Didn't want to start an ID thread, so I thought I'd ask here—is this San Pedro cactus? The main plant was damaged or destroyed in a fire, but these stalks seem to have survived. If it's San Pedro, I'll go back and collect them. Thanks for the feedback.

To speed up growth but also because the roots were being damaged by fungus gnats. The grafted ones I have are much farther along than the ones on their own roots
Here is one on its own roots

Here are some grafted boys

Haven't counted how many there are now but whenever I first transferred I had just over 160 total. 120-130 of those were pachs and bridges. I accidentally left the Perus in the sun during germination and think I cooked some of the seeds. Several of each have died since transferring, just small gimpy ones tho. I'll probably start consuming in 2 years, but you're right, I have no idea what I'm going to do as they get bigger lol. I suppose I'll have to facilitate some trades. I'll give you 10 pachs for 1 loph
