I'm looking to start colonizing dowels for lions mane and shiitake on logs. I've done some searches but not finding much.

You can find it at any hardware store usually. They come in a long stick and you’ll have to cut them to size.
If you’re doing it yourself then just use sawdust blocks. Think it was field & forest that has a sawdust spawn tool that will grab and punch it into the hole. According them it’s much faster as well due to so many inoculation points. They have some good videos on outdoor log cultivation on YouTube if interested. I think they ran an experiment on sawdust Vs dowel inoculation.

ShroomSupply has a decent price on dowels especially if you can combine shipping with something else. Drilling logs is a huge pain a regular drill+drill bit though, be ready for that.

500 dowels for $10. This is what I was looking for, thank you. I have done this once before, about 9 years ago. But they were pre-colonized. I'm ready to make my own. I live in the middle of a forest. Plenty of volunteers falling down from storms, etc. I believe the dowels will work better in my situation, as any grain will be sniffed out and exhumed by the local fauna.
Just ordered 1000, $26 shipped

1000 dowels for $15.25, not sure about shipping; It's where I've got them before; I still have extra
Thanks for that, will check them out for the next batch. Just edited my last post to say I just ordered from shroom supply. 1000 shipped for $26. $17.95 +$8 shipping.
Edit to say after looking, your source is 40 cents cheaper with shipping. Thanks again, good to have choices
