If you could start again, a milion miles away...

It is not very rare for people to start tripping for their very first time, and dont know much, if anything at all, about set, setting and tripping in general. Also, even if someone was preparing for months or even years, by reading books, message boards, speaking with experienced psychedelics users, still - they couldn`t really prepare themselfs for what was going to happand.
So lets say we got a second chance, we remember our experience with psychedelisc, but we can start again, our first trip is about to happand. My question for you all:
What would you have done differently, what would you have changed in your approach to tripping if you know then what you know now? Also, second question: there are tripping basics, and there is getting more serious with psychedelisc. If you are one of those more serious users, in the time when you were starting to treat these drugs serious, and wanted to really get somewhere deep, was there anything you would done differently today?
As an example, I`ll give the first answers myself.
If I could eat these mushrooms again for the first time, before I would research more on the practical side of tripping, and be more patient in waiting for good ocassion for tripping. I wouldn`t again rush into experience only because we have finally found the right shrooms .
And getting more serious: I can only begin to answer that, since I`m actually looking forward to answers for that one. But I belive it`s again patience that is important here, and absolutely the good reasons for taking psychedelisc (especially in larger doses). What these reasons ar is a personal thing, I suppose, but having great respect for these magical substances is a must in my opinion.
I hope this thread may help begginners in this area, and also the ones willing to get more serious with psychedelisc in terms of reflections from experience . Of course, as serious as you can get, don`t forget these great words, whoever said it: Life is a joke, treat it too serious and the joke is on you!

I would change nothing at all about my first trip. Surround yourself with loving people, be in a worry free environment, and go into it with a positive attitude. That's all you can do, the rest is up to your subconscious. IMO, experience is the only knowledge for tripping.

I wouldn't have had all the wine before hand (my exams had finished that day!). It was still great, a warm sunny evening, lots of friends, uberhappy about exams being over etc, but I would've liked to have experienced them on their own.

If I could change my first time, I probably wouldn't be driving when I ate them. It was pretty fun though, it was a small dose and I got in a high speed pursuit with me chasing someone else. We also ended up watching From Hell (the jack the ripper movie) which wasn't the best.

I wouldn't change a single thing about my first trip, it was an amazing one eighth experience, full of love, very visual. When I asked this question to the person I tripped with that night they said maybe we wouldn't have listened to Dark Side of the Moon on repeat five times in a row.. but I don't agree with that shit one bit! Great Gig in the Sky Forever! edit: I appreciated the Reznor nod in the name of this thread, by the way..

All I really know is that those few years saddled me with a faith in the redemptive potential of the imagination which, however flat, stale and unprofitable the world seems to me now, I cannot for the life of me shake. -Erik Davis

I have no regrets from my first time. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I was completely mad with power!! At least thats what I kept saying to myself while I was roaming in the field behind my house.

I wouldn't change anything about my first time except finding a better way to cover up that horrid taste, rather than soaking them in A1 Steak Sauce.

The only thing I would change is my dosage by half a gram. Everything else was perfect, me and my best friend just walked around outside, smoked some weed, and everything was good. And I had some closed eye visuals which really introduced me to shrooms.
Some beautiful sights I had. I hope my next trip is a good one, cause lately it just seems to go bad.

Thank you so much for this post. I'm getting deshroominized this month. I am a little impatient but not to much. I'm 26 yrs. old. I think I've waited long enough! I've taken everybody's replies into consideration! I'll definitely be back with a trip report!

I would reduced the wondering about how great it is, and the over analysing. And fully let the experience overwhelm me. The first time was so great... It's true.. The first experience is the most intense one..

My first trip was the best one actually. I took a big dose however; I don't like that step by step learning program.
I felt reborn; it totally blew me away!!!
And if someone says you never really can be prepared for the tripping itself; he/she is right. The only way you'll ever know is when you do it yourself.
Peace!

If I could change one thing I wouldnt have done them on a day where I have to work in the morning. I stayed up all night freaking out cause my eyes were still dilated until like 530am and I couldnt sleep at all. That was one of the longest work days ever.

I probably wouldn't have gone to the movies and seen "Seven" during my first ever drug experience, which was LSD. The movie influenced my trip in such a way that my hallucinations and fantasies were very dark and gory. It wasn't frightening, but I prefer hallucinations of a different nature. For example, when I was talking to a dog in near pitch blackness it looked as though it's fur was rotting away to reveal bones beneath the skin. It was amazing but also a bit worrisome. I would have rather the dog just melted or something like that.
